I am a bit late posting for GHT because of all the activity here as our chimney and fireplace is being replaced. I did this graphite drawing especially for Guest Heart Thursday--a little Unexpected Surprise!
Of course, I've hidden hearts in this drawing. Have a lovely day, and Happy Guest Thursday!

Here is another of my drawings on toned sketch paper. Of course, there is a heart to be found in this drawing.
The title of this piece is to honor and thank those in my life, who's love, prayers and dear friendship have surrounded me all these years. You know who you are.
Have a lovely weekend and Happy Guest Heart Thursday!

Here is another graphite drawing from my sketchbook. Of course, there are hearts around the neckline of one of these sisters. I thought this to be perfect for today's Guest Heart Thursday.
Above you see my lovely models--and yes, they are sisters!

I have posted this colored pencil drawing before. It is one of my earlier pieces of artwork and has hearts hidden throughout. Since Fall is only a month or two away, I thought this drawing would be perfect for this weeks Guest Heart Thursday.
Though the cat seems like she's going to have this whimsical fairy for dinner, in actuality, the kitty is totally delighted to have awakened her friend from a nap on those lovely leaves. Later they will hunt spiders together.
I know, I know--I have a GREAT imagination.
Have a great rest of the week everyone!

I've been on a mermaid kick lately, can you tell? I thought it would be fun to show the ocean with foam made of hearts--a tide of hearts. It might be that I miss the ocean.

This demure miss was actually drawn on grey-toned paper with black and white Prismacolor pencils. The scanner turns the grey colored paper into a warm brownish feel. I kind of like it!
This lovely young woman reminds me of a movie star from the 1970's. I drew this from my head--so perhaps an old memory from the past flew through. Of course, I have hidden hearts in this drawing.

This tiny watercolor is the size of a baseball card, only 2.5x3.5. My niece and I were happily painting at the dining room table, when I noticed Toez the Polydactyl Cat had climbed into one of the chairs to see what we were up to. She was so interested, and my niece was so darling, I had to draw them both. Of course, she is a fairy and I've hidden hearts in the painting.

A few weeks ago (on my birthday) my dear girl Rena married Luke, her own true love! I am SO happy for her--she positively glows. This watercolor painting is her wedding gift. Of course, I have hidden a few hearts in her misty veil.
Above is my reference photo. When I saw this wonderful photograph by Holly Butler of Roselynn Photography, I had to paint it!
I had posted this painting earlier in the week, but for some reason, Blogger ATE it. Since there are hearts hidden in her veil I thought it perfect for Guest Heart Thursday, so I re-posted it!

I haven't done one of these for years--I seem to remember doing something similar to this type of drawing, when I was in high school--bored and doodling in class! Nowadays, they are called Zen tangles. My sweet Niece Victoria does them--and I am in awe of her work.
For my birthday, she drew the beautiful piece you see above! I am SO honored. ...and inspired!--the Heart Tangle is the result. Thank you, Victoria! You are so wonderfully talented, and I love you!

The story behind this sketch is rather funny. The folks from ServPro were here cleaning up after our chimney fire. It took almost five weeks for those wonderful ladies to deep clean this old place.
I was sitting at the dining room table drawing a bit to pass the time, because there were people in my office. Someone asked a question, and I left my sketchbook behind. What I didn't realize, is that in my haste to be of help, I had dribbled coffee all over my drawing.
By the time I returned, the spots were already dry. SO--I decided to make the coffee stains into flowers. Sometimes mistakes can be the best thing! I really like how it turned out. When I finish it, I'll likely use watercolors.
And of course, there are hidden hearts to be found--how many can you see?
Above is my reference photograph for this graphite drawing. My lovely and talented
model is Melissa, who's face I love to draw. She is a
wonderful Friend.

It is dangerous in this lovely maiden's world. Who was it she heard? Perhaps a dragon? Or a warlock? She is more than up to the fight. Of course, I have hidden hearts in this drawing--how many can you find?
Above is the reference photograph for this graphite drawing. My lovely and talented model is Rena, who has as great an imagination as I do. She is a wonderful Friend.

This graphite drawing from my sketchbook is the preliminary sketch for a commission I'm working on. I'm drawing this for a dear friend of mine, who will be giving the finished piece to her daughter for her birthday!
Above you can see the original photo I've been working from. Her real name is Denise, and I have had so much fun figuring out what her hair should look like as a mermaid.
Of course, I have hidden hearts in this drawing--how many can you find?

This beautiful fairy from my sketchbook was inspired by an old print in a fairytale book. Tuesday morning I met a young woman at the doctor's office whose name had the meaning of dew in the morning. And so I was further inspired. This is a dew fairy, a type of winged being who, in the dawn of morning, encourages luscious drops of light and reflection to gently rest upon the plants and trees of the earth.
There are hearts hidden in this drawing--how many can you find?

I love this little faery. I have used this pose and model over and over again, and never tire of all the variations! Of course, I have hidden hearts in this graphite drawing from my sketchbook.
Above you see the reference photo for this sketch. The model, Melissa--is one of my sweet young friends whose face I dearly love to draw.

Here is another graphite drawing from my sketchbook. I borrowed the actual border from an old Art Nouveau border I found online. It seemed so perfect for this drawing, I used it.
Above is the the photo which was my inspiration for this sketch. I am so grateful to my models for their participation. This is Rena, and she is wonderful!

I love how this graphite drawing turned out. There's something so vulnerable, so dear about this little fairy--I just want to hug her.
Above you see my original photo. The camera loves this girl. I can't explain it--magic happens when I take her picture. She is a wonderful person. It is an honor to be her friend.

Here is another graphite drawing from my sketchbook. Of course I have hidden lots of interesting hearts throughout. I often use my own photography as references for my artwork. I am so blessed by the talented young women, who give their precious time to indulge an old lady who loves to draw.
Above is Heather, one of my lovely young friends. She is a sweetheart of a girl--truly an angel, both in heart and appearance.

Here is another drawing from my sketchbook. The paper is actually grey. For some reason the scanner dubs it as brown. I used black and white Prismacolor pencils to do the shading. I found an old photograph from a magazine for my inspiration, and of course I have hidden hearts in her hair.
There's something about this picture that seems like an expression of my own soul. It is the way I feel, when my soul is transported by beautiful music, or a piece of extraordinary artwork. Or when I see something amazing in the skies, in the handiwork of my Creator--or when I hear stories of impossible, amazing events. Miracles happen every day, we just need to look for them--to see with the eyes of one's soul.
Have a lovely day, dear friends and Happy Guest Heart Thursday.

Of course, there are many many hidden hearts in this drawing from my sketchbook. I thought this lovely Flower Faced girl would be just perfect for this Spring day. Even though it is raining, there is a distinct feeling of newness in the air. Flowers are blooming and the birds are singing. And just now, that is enough for me. (grin)
