Shelter in the Storm -Paint Party Friday

A couple of nights ago we had a huge windstorm with pounding rains--this cute little drawing, inspired by a vintage postcard, was born during that storm!  Thankfully there was not any damage to the property, other than a big canopy which escaped its tethers to land on its head in the alley next to the house.

The storm was quite an adventure! The wind was so strong at times it wiffled its way through the sealed air conditioner, causing the curtains to puff and breathe. 

With every additional noise, my little friend, Toez the Polydactyl Cat, became more tense.  Her sleepy eyes grew wider as she slowly perked her ears forward.  Then her sudden saucer eyes began to glow bright yellow. Especially when the wind began to howl down the chimney. I could see the hair on her nape rise, and her nostrils twitch as she considered the sound.

Abruptly she leaped from her comfy spot in front of the fireplace to skitter up the stairs, flying back downstairs, sounding like a herd of miniature elephants.

I giggled as she stealthily climbed to the top of the fat chair by the front window moving the curtains aside to position her nose against the glass. When she tired of the view, suddenly she was stalking something on the floor. I couldn't see anything there--but whatever it was seemed to tremendously interesting. Every now and again, she would suddenly leap straight up into the air, then go back to snooting yon non-existent bug...

I did try to go to sleep--the wind was a nice lullaby. However each time I was finally close to curling up and dropping off, Toez would catapult herself onto my shoulder, to walk stiff-legged across my arm, onto my hip, skipping on her kitty toes down to my feet.  This, of course, left me pop-eyed and wide awake.

I did manage to sleep toward morning as the storm eased. Thank the Lord for that!

Wrinkles -Paint Party Friday

Years ago I taught cartooning to grade school children as a part of an enrichment program.  I LOVE cartooning--and it often comes out, even in my more serious artwork.

But some are just pure cartoon--this is one such doodle from my sketchbook.  Toez the Polydactyl Cat was looking SO grumpy a few nights ago, I decided to do a caricature of her.  This is the result.  I made her hairless, too.  LOL

As you can see, Miss Personality can be a bit of a stinker!  :D

She often decides I am not giving her enough attention and that I shouldn't be drawing...and this is what she does.  LOL

Toez the Spider Hunter -Paint Party Friday

Here is Toez the Polydactyl Cat.  She was charging around the house, eyes as big as saucers.  Eventually she cornered a HUGE spider.  I caught the look on her face as she looked up to congratulate herself.  She played with it awhile then had a quick snack.  Ugh!  I'm so glad I am not a cat!  LOL

Toez and the Faery -Guest Heart Thursday

This tiny watercolor is the size of a baseball card, only 2.5x3.5.  My niece and I were happily painting at the dining room table, when I noticed Toez the Polydactyl Cat had climbed into one of the chairs to see what we were up to.  She was so interested, and my niece was so darling, I had to draw them both.  Of course, she is a fairy and I've hidden hearts in the painting.

Missing Sketchbook--My Heart is Broken

Wednesday evening some friends we hadn't see in years took us to an early dinner at Red Lobster in Salem, Oregon.  I brought my sketchbook along.  I don't know how I could have been so forgetful, but I left my sketchbook in the booth where we were sitting--we left at 5 p.m., just before the evening rush.

By the time I realized I had left it behind, it was too late.  When we called Red Lobster, no one had turned it in and my sketchbook was gone.  My name wasn't in the book.  I'm praying my "logo," BLN, which is included in each drawing, will give enough of a clue that the person who found my sketchbook will be able to find me.

This sketchbook is filled with notes on life and drawings of people I love--including a brave young lady, who has been very ill.  I have also been working on a cartoon of my cat.  I had scanned in every one of those drawings, except, somehow I missed the most important one--a drawing of the brave girl I wrote of at the beginning of this paragraph.  How I missed scanning it in, I don't know.  The finished piece was to be a gift.

If you are the person who picked up my sketchbook, perhaps you are trying to find me--please write to me at beth @ niquette. net.  The reward for the return of my sketchbook is an original drawing to express my gratefulness.  The art would be of anything you like.

I would be eternally and ever grateful to you--would likely hug you to bits should you return my sketchbook.  I can't tell you how much this would mean to me.

My offer is a long shot, I know.  Like a finding needle in a haystack.  I don't know if I ever will hear from the person who took my sketchbook.  If this person contacts me, it would be a miracle. 

Toez in a Roze is one of the sketches in my sketchbook, as is the dear brave girl above.  I'm praying for a miracle.

Kitty and Me -Guest Heart Thursday

Here is another doodle from the past couple of days.  I have always been known deep down, that cats have hidden wings.  This was even before the famous children's books about kitten wings.  Here you see a faery and her best buddy.  I wonder what mischief they are up to?  Of course there is a hidden heart in this graphite drawing.

The Egg is Mine -Guest Heart Thursday

This is Toez the Polydactyl Cat.  She lives in my house and invades every part of my life--including the pages of my sketchbook.

Often as I draw, she insinuates herself onto my lap--whereupon she places her furry little chin on the table to purr with great gusto.  With an occasional attempt to capture my pen, she delights to "watch" my progress.

As you might imagine, her antics keep us thoroughly entertained.

Toez Gets Bellz -Guest Heart Thursday

I painted this little 2.5x3.5 inch picture of Toez the Polydactyl Cat, when she was full on cute in kittenhood.  She has learned to use those wonderful mitten paws of hers just like a human does.  Even as I type this she is sneaking between me and the keyboard to nestle herself in such a way that typing can become difficult!!  (meow)

Here's a picture of our tiny Toez the day she came home.  Isn't she just darling?   (grin) As you can see, she was totally irresistible!

And she STILL is!  Even though she's since grown to the size of a small bobcat.
