Kitty Cat Library -Thursday Art Date

This is an ACEO I created for a friend of mine a few years ago.  It is the size of a baseball card, so was rather tricky to get in the lettering.

I taught cartooning to youngsters for years, so here you see my cartooning side coming out!

Ribbet, I love you.

Hello, sweet Friends.  I am posting this "Catfish" drawing from long ago, in honor of a brave little kitty who beat the odds.  Her name is Ribbet.  She was born with a hollow chest and wasn't expected to make it.  Yet, that brave kitten grew and lived to have a litter of kittens...and she yet lives with Mumsie.

However, just recently she hasn't been well.  It was discovered she has cancer.  She does not have long.  When I saw her today--heaven was in her eyes.  I asked her to greet Crickette' and my Beloved  for me...and she looked at me with huge soulful eyes and said yes.  I saw it.  Her eyes were filled with love, as she voiced that tiny meow. 

Oh, friends...I shall miss this sweet brave kitty.

Here she is--she was a kitten then.  As silly as it sounds, please pray for this little one's peace and that she will not have pain as she is dying.

Thank you. Oh, thank you.

UPDATE:  Little Ribbet flew away to heaven Tuesday evening, March 29th.  My heart is so sad.

Angel Naptime -Paint Party Friday

I am incredibly blessed to have my sweet niece in my life. She often shows up in my artwork, as do her little friends.  

Here you see Stringbean the pup and Peaches the cat along my sweet angelic niece getting ready to take a nap after a day sliding down rainbows.

Kitty Cat Cloud

It has been awhile since I posted one of my cloud paintings, so here he is--this sweet little Kitty Cat Cloud.  I love how his ears turned out.  What a cutie.  I do so adore cats.  (grin)

Above you see this beautiful little fellow as I first saw him, floating and stretching across the skies.

Surprise! -Guest Heart Thursday

I have posted this colored pencil drawing before.  It is one of my earlier pieces of artwork and has hearts hidden throughout.  Since Fall is only a month or two away, I thought this drawing would be perfect for this weeks Guest Heart Thursday.

Though the cat seems like she's going to have this whimsical fairy for dinner, in actuality, the kitty is totally delighted to have awakened her friend from a nap on those lovely leaves.  Later they will hunt spiders together.  

I know, I know--I have a GREAT imagination.

Cloud Kitten

Every now and then a fluffy cloud kitten peeks over the back fence.  That particular summer day I had my camera nearby, so was able to capture this darling, mischievous feline just before she ducked back into the curling mists.

Above you can see the original clouds--and if you look closely--there she is!

Missing Sketchbook--My Heart is Broken

Wednesday evening some friends we hadn't see in years took us to an early dinner at Red Lobster in Salem, Oregon.  I brought my sketchbook along.  I don't know how I could have been so forgetful, but I left my sketchbook in the booth where we were sitting--we left at 5 p.m., just before the evening rush.

By the time I realized I had left it behind, it was too late.  When we called Red Lobster, no one had turned it in and my sketchbook was gone.  My name wasn't in the book.  I'm praying my "logo," BLN, which is included in each drawing, will give enough of a clue that the person who found my sketchbook will be able to find me.

This sketchbook is filled with notes on life and drawings of people I love--including a brave young lady, who has been very ill.  I have also been working on a cartoon of my cat.  I had scanned in every one of those drawings, except, somehow I missed the most important one--a drawing of the brave girl I wrote of at the beginning of this paragraph.  How I missed scanning it in, I don't know.  The finished piece was to be a gift.

If you are the person who picked up my sketchbook, perhaps you are trying to find me--please write to me at beth @ niquette. net.  The reward for the return of my sketchbook is an original drawing to express my gratefulness.  The art would be of anything you like.

I would be eternally and ever grateful to you--would likely hug you to bits should you return my sketchbook.  I can't tell you how much this would mean to me.

My offer is a long shot, I know.  Like a finding needle in a haystack.  I don't know if I ever will hear from the person who took my sketchbook.  If this person contacts me, it would be a miracle. 

Toez in a Roze is one of the sketches in my sketchbook, as is the dear brave girl above.  I'm praying for a miracle.

The Egg is Mine -Guest Heart Thursday

This is Toez the Polydactyl Cat.  She lives in my house and invades every part of my life--including the pages of my sketchbook.

Often as I draw, she insinuates herself onto my lap--whereupon she places her furry little chin on the table to purr with great gusto.  With an occasional attempt to capture my pen, she delights to "watch" my progress.

As you might imagine, her antics keep us thoroughly entertained.

Furry Heart Face - Guest Heart Thursday

I love this drawing of our dear Main Coon Elvis.  I call this one All Ears.  This was the first of several surreal cats I've done--one for each wonderful feline we've known over the years.  Can you see the heart shape here?

Though I've posted this drawing of Elvis before, the bright color and happy feeling of this drawing on this dark, rainy, cloudy morning, is perfect for this week's Guest Heart Thursday.

Here is our Blue Crickette'.   She was such a lovely gentle companion.

Kitty Monet, our darling black cat, Snow Bunny, looks out through sweet sly cat eyes.  She loved my children as her own.  We were "co" Moms.

This is Peachy Snooper, who will soon be a colorful kitty.  In the works are Bodacious Bootz and Sweet Twinkle Toez.

Crickette Kitty

As storm clouds laden with rain scudded across the skies, I caught our little Crickette'  peeking over the tops of the clouds.

 Above you see her as I first caught her pouncing upon wisps of the storm.

Here she is again!  I was able to get two shots of our darling kitty before she whiskered her way back to heaven.

And here you see Crickette' as I originally saw her, peeking through the storm.  Of course, I waved.  I'm sure she winked before she flew away.

This piece is a commissioned drawing for a friend of mine.  It is of her lovely Mother.  I put an Art Nouveau feel to the drawing--and there are hearts everywhere.  How many can YOU find?

The Adventures of Toez, the Polydactyl Kitten - Guest Heart Thursday

Princess Twinkle Toez came to live with us about a month ago.  She has six toes on all but one paw.  She is what people sometimes refer to as a Mitten Cat, because her front paws look like mittens.  Her back paws look like her feet are on wrong, because the larger toe is on the outside of her foot--rather than the inside.

Below you see her with one of the toys she delights to bat across the floor.  Once she catches it, she often holds her prize between her hands--rather like a human!

Her feisty personality has inspired many small ACEO drawings.  She loves to play--often pouncing upon anything that moves--and sometimes it is all in her imagination.

Toez was sleeping in the window seat when I sketched this more realistic drawing of her.

After awhile she awoke with that quizzical look upon her whiskered face.  "What you doing?" she seems to say.  She would rather eat my pencil, you see--and why did I awaken her from her nap?  Well, she's just SO cute!  I'm sure as time proceeds there will be many more adventures from Toez, the Polydactyl Kitten

Toes

Here is another of my watercolour paintings.  This is one of eight cuddles ACEO Artist Trading Cards.  ATCs are tiny pieces of original artwork--the Cuddles series turned out so darling I can hardly bring myself to put them up for sale!

My model, a teeny cat named "Ribbet" was a kitten at the time I painted this picture.  Born with deformed ribs she fought to learn to walk and run.  These days though still small, she gracefully runs through a room and is a delight to our eyes.  What a courageous little cat!

Sleepin' Pretty - Guest Heart Thursday

This week, my sweet Friend Amber Day, a wonderful artist and watercolourist, came over for lunch.  We had a fabulous afternoon.  I have always been scared to death of watercolours.  She taught me enough that day, that I am not afraid anymore.  I can hardly put the brush down--I have a feeling I've found a new passion in art...this is one of six Cuddles watercolor ACEOs.  I will be putting them up for sale on Ebay this weekend!

Bootz in Living Color - Pink Saturday

This is my first ever entry for Pink Saturday on my art blog!  Here is Bootz the Cat in all her glory.  The scanner doesn't do justice to the original drawing.  The slight purple shading in the gray of her fur came out a LOT darker than it actually is--and the fine gray fur lines didn't hardly show at all.  So you'll have to use your imagination.

Love at First Sight - Guest Heart Thursday

No hidden hearts today!  They are in plain sight.  As you can see, these two are in love.  This ACEO was inspired by Bootz the Cat.   In real life, as I type these words, Bootz is lounging across the corner of my desk, her head resting on the phone book like a pillow.  Bootz is a Ragdoll.  She isn't even full grown, yet sports a 14-inch tail.  Her body is 16-inches long.  Add those together, with her considerable muscle and girth--she's quite a girl!

Bootz the Cat fills our life and home with laughter.  How grateful we are for this loving little, er humongous roommate!

Kitty Cat Sky Nap

Two years ago, late Summer, I was working outside in the garden when I noticed this darling little cat stretching as she awoke from her Kitty Cat Sky Nap!  Of course, since my camera is like a piece of jewelry--always around my neck--I caught her before she leaped away to chase a flock of geese.

Kitten Wings - ACEO

I have always loved the whimsical children's book series about cats with wings--Cat Wings.  I've always drawn cats with wings--along with horses, people, faeries and the like.  But there's something about the idea of cats with bird wings which intrigues me.

This tiny drawing is only 2.5 x 3.5 inches.  It is like a little piece of paper jewelry.  I love how the colors turned out on this one--The prismacolors blended perfectly that day!  Have a great weekend!
