Sweet Smiles -Paint Party Friday

Here is a recent sketch from my sketchbook.  The mosaic window behind this dear girl actually has roses hidden in it.  When it is inked and color added, I think it will be more easily seen.  I love to hide things in my drawings.

Above you see my reference photo featuring my sweet Friends Rena and Heather.  By the way, I made the red cloak from some old velvet curtains which once hung in my in my office.  The green cloak was made from an old army blanket.  I believe these days, they call this "re-purposing!"

This time around, I'm including an old ACEO drawing from 2010.  It is called What's a Dragon to do?  As you can see, the poor fierce dragon is totally baffled by the loving attentions of that amorous little birdie.

Happy Paint Party Friday, all you wonderful artists and beautiful people. May God bless you, dear ones.  Have a lovely weekend and thank you for dropping by.

Love at First Sight -Guest Heart Thursday

This saucy unicorn started life on the counter--I saw him in the wood grain, grabbed a pencil and walah!

A moment later I noticed my sketchbook was open and that unicorn was OBVIOUSLY making eyes at this lovely maiden--hence, he joined her on the page...I know,  I know, I have a GREAT imagination!

And of course, there are hearts hidden throughout. Have a lovely day!

What is a Dragon to Do? - Guest Heart Thursday

It seems our poor Dragon dear has an ardent admirer.  I believe the Lady Dragon returns the little fellow's great affection in some small way -- but what's a Dragon to do with THIS hapless circumstance?

Love at First Sight - Guest Heart Thursday

No hidden hearts today!  They are in plain sight.  As you can see, these two are in love.  This ACEO was inspired by Bootz the Cat.   In real life, as I type these words, Bootz is lounging across the corner of my desk, her head resting on the phone book like a pillow.  Bootz is a Ragdoll.  She isn't even full grown, yet sports a 14-inch tail.  Her body is 16-inches long.  Add those together, with her considerable muscle and girth--she's quite a girl!

Bootz the Cat fills our life and home with laughter.  How grateful we are for this loving little, er humongous roommate!

My Love - Guest Heart Thursday

I was doodling an ASCO card last night.  This is what came out of my pen--an amorous birdie who's fallen for a very dangerous dragon.  I think the dragon is intrigued as she is coming up all hearts.  How many hearts can YOU find?

The Mermaid and the Fisherman

This pen and ink drawing is a result of a few days spent at the ocean a few years ago. I was fascinated by the bubbles in the surf and the rivulets of ocean water as the waves pounded the shoreline. I sought to capture the motion and grace of the sea.

I've always loved the idea of mermaids. The latest tale (no pun intended) I read was interesting. Mermaids were able to remove the skin of their tails, which they would then hide among the rocks. They did this so they could walk along the beaches unhindered.

According to legend, a man could steal a mermaid's tail skin, hide it and woo the mermaid as his own. However he had to keep the tail hidden, because if she found it, the pulse of the sea would be irresistible and she would disappear into the waves once more.

Do I believe in mermaids? Well, they haven't found Bigfoot yet, have they? Hmmmm....

Captured

And so the fairytale goes. Through no fault of her own, a lovely princess is put under a terrible enchantment. The only way to save her is to capture her when she is in her true form, then hold on tight as she changes. To let go would mean certain death, to hang on would be to face his greatest fears.
.
Only true love will triumph, because only true love has the courage to stand firm in the face of overwhelming danger and fear.
.
Our hero bravely seizes the girl in his arms. In a whirl of mindless fury she changes into a menacing sharp-toothed tiger. He grimly hangs on. She becomes a great eagle who's cruel beak and talons wound his straining arms. He tenderly catches her in his hands as she melts into a sparkling dewdrop. And perserveres when she threatens him as a fierce fire-breathing dragon.
.
When she lies exhausted in our hero's arms, he kisses her and the enchantment is broken.
.
And of course, they live happily ever after.
