Dragon Breath -Paint Party Friday

Years ago I discovered a picture of a cat with fire coming out if its mouth--I saw a dragon, hence the title "Dragon Breath."

I've been incredibly busy and continue to be so--I hope you don't mind my sharing this goofy drawing from long ago.

When you peruse this piece, I hope you laugh as much as I did, as I drew it!  Thank you for dropping by, your comments are such an encouragement.  Have a happy weekend, dear Friends, and Happy Paint Party Friday!

Brave Rescuer -Paint Party Friday

I have been awfully busy.  There are so many things to do regarding year-end paperwork, along with our dear friend Dan's passing last Friday, and another precious friend who is very ill in the hospital.  As you might guess, I didn't get much artwork done last week.

This drawing is from long ago, before my husband flew away to heaven.  He was my dear love, my rescuer--he would have done anything for me.  He was my hero.  Our Dan was his best buddy--both of these dear fellas were heroes to their families.

I posted this graphite drawing to honor them both.  (Though in real life, if I were that young lady, I'd have spotted the dragon and would be knocking him over the head with my baseball bat.  I never was the damsel in distress.)  (grin)

Above is the lovely reference photo for this drawing.  I could not find the page where this stock once was available, but you might find it on DA, an online art and stock site.

Thank you so much for dropping by.  Blessings, comfort and joy to all of you, dear Friends.  Happy Paint Party Friday!

Sweet Smiles -Paint Party Friday

Here is a recent sketch from my sketchbook.  The mosaic window behind this dear girl actually has roses hidden in it.  When it is inked and color added, I think it will be more easily seen.  I love to hide things in my drawings.

Above you see my reference photo featuring my sweet Friends Rena and Heather.  By the way, I made the red cloak from some old velvet curtains which once hung in my in my office.  The green cloak was made from an old army blanket.  I believe these days, they call this "re-purposing!"

This time around, I'm including an old ACEO drawing from 2010.  It is called What's a Dragon to do?  As you can see, the poor fierce dragon is totally baffled by the loving attentions of that amorous little birdie.

Happy Paint Party Friday, all you wonderful artists and beautiful people. May God bless you, dear ones.  Have a lovely weekend and thank you for dropping by.

Purple Moon -Paint Party Friday

I painted this large acrylic on a large canvas in 2010 to honor the life of a dear little friend. Crickette's extraordinary story can be found at Angel Stories.  Her face is hidden in this painting--can you find her?

We still miss our small mischievous Crickette'.

Above is another peek into my sketchbook.  I found a wonderful photo of a cat yawning--it so hit my funny bone, this sketch popped out of my pencil.  Bwaahahahahaa...Dragon Breath!  I am sure Crickette' would have smiled to see this one.

Have a lovely day, sweet Friends!  Happy Paint Party Friday!

Brave Rescuer -Guest Heart Thursday

I had so much fun with this doodle.  As you can see, this handsome swordsman is rescuing the beautiful princess from the clutches of a VERY upset dragon.  As I don't like sad endings, I am of a mind the dragon gets stuck in the trees and the two escape unscathed!

Of course, I have hidden hearts throughout the drawing--how many can you find?  Have a great day and Happy Guest Heart Thursday!

Storyteller -Weekly Word Sketches

I chose the word "dreaming" from this week's list.  My drawing is an old lineart sketch from way back.  This young fellow has always been a dreamer--here he is in the midst of his dreaming, holding all of his listeners enthralled.

Snap Dragons -Guest Heart Thursday

This is a piece of artwork I did in the Spring of 1980 for a children's book Mumsie was submitting in a contest.  We didn't win the contract, but I came away with some wonderfully imaginative drawings.

The reason I remember the year and time so well, is that it was right around the time Mt. Saint Helen's blew her top in Washington State.  I was in the park sitting at a picnic table.  As I was drawing I heard a kind of soft pattering on the paper.  It was dust from the volcano landing on my artwork.  It seemed quite proper at the time--as I was drawing dragons.

Yes, even back then, I hid hearts in my drawings.  How many can you find?

What is a Dragon to Do? - Guest Heart Thursday

It seems our poor Dragon dear has an ardent admirer.  I believe the Lady Dragon returns the little fellow's great affection in some small way -- but what's a Dragon to do with THIS hapless circumstance?

My Love - Guest Heart Thursday

I was doodling an ASCO card last night.  This is what came out of my pen--an amorous birdie who's fallen for a very dangerous dragon.  I think the dragon is intrigued as she is coming up all hearts.  How many hearts can YOU find?

Tale of Tails - Illustration Friday

When I was a girl, my siblings and I would pretend to be shipwrecked.  My garden, located in the middle of the blueberry field--was an island surrounded by rough seas.  We would build forts and have picnics there.  My brothers would battle all kinds of dragons and slithering creatures from their imagination.  Those bygone days were such great fun.

After I was done with this drawing I noticed I did something really funny--can you spot it???

Dragon Ride

Have you ever wanted to fly on the back of a dragon? Or a flying dinosaur? Ah, I have to admit--that's a fond dream of mine.

Snort

This dragon is having a little playful fun, snorting hot steam against the boy's riding cloak. You can see the affectionate annoyance in the eyes of his young rider. As a dragon rider of Pern, the boy and his dragon often battle against incredible odds. It is good that they are friends.

Forest Defender

This is one of my more "whimsical drawings." As a youngster I loved and dearly enjoyed all fairytales, myths and legends. Coupled with a big imagination, I would often make up stories about the lives of the faery folk I imagined living in the forest. I was the staunch and brave defender of the woodland!
.
The forest near where I grew up is beautiful. There is a small canyon, complete with tall trees, and a rippling, singing brook. In these magical woods grow snowdrops, pungent skunk cabbage, star flowers, vine maple and fiddle fern. The moss grows thick beneath fragrant fir and cedar trees, where vast bunches of green sword fern grow unrestrained. A few years ago, we found ferns growing near the creek, with fronds more than six feet in length!
.
As children, my brothers, sisters, cousins and I played in Leprechaun Valley and Deer Valley. There were beautiful places we named Bambi's meadow, Reflection Lake, Castle Stump and Fairy Wing Pond. We would follow the distinct trails of the deer into thickets of low growth beneath the cedar trees. There we would find green-walled rooms, complete with lush moss carpeting. I remember the loveliness of delicate maiden hair fern and the rare find of an Indian Peace Pipe plant.
.
I recall long summer days spent exploring, building forts and tree houses, eating blackberries from vines covering the steep hillsides, and red huckleberries from "Huckleberry Bridge." I can retrace wading in the cool stream and the way the soft mud felt when we would sink our feet deep into the Mud Flats formed by natural springs bubbling up from the rich brown earth.
.
On this cold winter day, if I think hard enough, I can still smell the fragrance of the cedar trees and feel the green coolness of the forest on a hot summer day. I hear the stillness of the woods, spiked with bird calls, the creek's song and the crackling of underbrush beneath my bare feet.

Guardians

Here you see a fairytale warrior and his friend--guardians of the castle, valient defenders against those who would wrong others.

Dragon Rest

Here you see a dragon at rest in the skies above the cedar tree which shadows our front lawn. To best see the artwork, click for a larger image. He's a cute little fellow!

Above you see the dragon as I first saw it yesterday afternoon. Click for the larger photo and you'll see the three-dimensional image of a dragon face already etched in the clouds. It is rather astonishing.

Fanged Fury!

One semi-sunny afternoon I was driving my son home from school. Because of the magnificent scenery out that direction, we often took the long way home, tooleying lazily along the empty country road, talking and gazing over vast vistas of hill, tree and sky.
.

There was a quiet companionable moment. The wheels of the car crunching over the gravel road and the sun shining down through a million drifting clouds, infused my heart with peace.

Then my son scared the life out of me. Suddenly he gave a whoop and a yell. "Stop, Mom," he shouted. "There's a dragon up there! See it?!" Peering up through the window, I stomped on the brakes, and we slid through the gravel to a flying stop.

Car doors hanging madly askew, we leaped out of the car. I, with camera in hand, my long-legged son loping across the road, excitedly pointing out the fanged fury he saw in the skies.

I looked. And indeed, there WAS a dragon in the sky! What an intelligent young man! This dragon is one of my very first cloud paintings. Because I did not have a Wacom at that time, my artwork was painstakingly done with the mouse.

The small photo below is what the original dragon cloud looked like! Enjoy!

Rescued

And Who hasn't read the stories from yesteryear, where the most beautiful damsel in the kingdom is tied to a post to await a horrific and tragic death at the claws and teeth of a terrible dragon. She must give herself up to her fate in order to save her people.

Then along comes our hero, who conquers the hungry dragon, and wins the hand of the fair maiden, not to mention her kingdom.

One wonders where such stories came from. I've wondered--Is it possible an ancient dinosaur habitually emerged from his lair to eat--terrorizing towns and cities, only to be vanquished by the hero of the day? Historical truth can sometimes be stranger than fiction. (grin)

Guardian

These two are guarded by a giant lizard who, by the look in his eye, has great affection for these two girls. It seems he may have decided to become their protector. You would not want to tangle with such a guardian, if he took a dislike to you. (grin)

Eeeek! It's a Dragon!

Last Summer I was down by the river taking photos, when I noticed a dragon hovering closely overhead. I'd never seen a dragon before, so I snapped a picture of him. He didn't mind in the least. In fact, I believe he was rather curious. I was amazed at the detail in his wings and face.
Above you see the original dragon I saw in the skies.
