Fairytale Sisters - Guest Heart Thursday

I'm so sorry I haven't posted for awhile--it has been a pretty hectic summer so far.  This is one of my newest pieces.  It was commissioned by a dear young lady for her sister on her birthday.  Yes there are hearts, hidden of course, in this drawing!

Antony and Cleopatra - Guest Heart Thursday

The legendary romance of Antony and Cleopatra is one of the greatest love stories of all time.

It was said this remarkable woman was not a beauty, but that she was irresistible; the attraction of her person, the charm of her conversation and sheer power of personality was bewitching. It  was said the sound of her voice was like an instrument of many strings.

The Queen of Egypt's ability to slip from one language into another is legendary, as are the accounts of how she managed to gain the attention of first Caesar, then Antony.

The tragic love story of Cleopatra and Antony fascinates us.  I wonder what these two would make of the books, plays and movies written about them?

Little Buddy

Yesterday was my friend Theresa's 50th birthday!  We have known each other for about half that time.  She is such a lovely, wonderful friend--A dear lady, who's gentle heart is full of beauty.

Happy Birthday, my Friend!

Tranquility

Sweet Fae sleeping in soft crimson rose petals.  She slumbers until the sun rises then is about her duties taking care of the wee caterpillars until they grow fat and cheeky.

The butterflies are faery friends--she is new to taking care of the little ones--when she has spent a summer watching over them, the butterflies will give her wings and she will fly.

I know...I have a GREAT imagination.

Hope

There are days when life seem so overwhelming it seems there is no way out. Sweet friends, there is hope.  There is always hope.

Trusting in the mighty hand of my Creator.
Resting in His grace.
I am leaning into his Strength,
Accepting His embrace.
I am at that moment at peace.
Only then.

Heart Nouveau - Guest Heart Thursday

Yesterday I sat at the dining room table and doodled a number of ACEO cards.  These 2.5x3.5 sized pieces of original art charm the eyes with their tiny size.

The doodle above is a type I often do--this one happened to have a heart--just perfect for Sissy's Guest Heart Thursday.

Rather than concentrating on something more serious as I often do--I decided to cartoon it up a bit.  Meet Miss Pixie, another of yesterday's doodles.  I was experimenting with tilted eyes when her cute little face materialized onto the paper.

This is a doodle of Toez the Polydactyl cat.  Except I noticed in this drawing, she only has five fingers.

Bunny Boy started off as a cat, ended up as a rabbit.

Furry Heart Face - Guest Heart Thursday

I love this drawing of our dear Main Coon Elvis.  I call this one All Ears.  This was the first of several surreal cats I've done--one for each wonderful feline we've known over the years.  Can you see the heart shape here?

Though I've posted this drawing of Elvis before, the bright color and happy feeling of this drawing on this dark, rainy, cloudy morning, is perfect for this week's Guest Heart Thursday.

Here are more Surreal Cats for your enjoyment.

Here is our Blue Crickette'.   She was such a lovely gentle companion.

Kitty Monet, our darling black cat, Snow Bunny, looks out through sweet sly cat eyes.  She loved my children as her own.  We were "co" Moms.

This is Peachy Snooper, who will soon be a colorful kitty.  In the works are Bodacious Bootz and Sweet Twinkle Toez.

Deborah, The Prophetess - Pink Saturday

This is Deborah, Prophetess and Judge of Israel in the time of the Judges.  Her story can be found in the Bible in Judges Four.  It is a dramatic story--Barak, Son of Thunder, commander of Israeli forces is about to lead their armies against the invading armies of King Sisera.  Through Deborah, God promised the commander that He would give Israel victory over the enemy.

However, Barak, Son of Thunder told Deborah he would only fight, if Deborah led the army with him; but if she would not, then he would not fight.  Deborah agreed to do so, but that if she did, he would not receive honor for the victory -- the enemy would be defeated by a woman.  And so it was--all she had  prophesied came to pass.

I was deeply touched by what my friend Shannon wrote.  She writes,  I see a young woman unsure of her capabilities, yet determined to face any fears down. Her sword is still sheathed, so she is wanting peace. But she is steadfastly standing at a "keyhole" opening to protect the things she treasures and to maintain the integrity of her "garden of peace." Her faith is strong, yet she questions herself.

This drawing practically drew itself.  Shannon put into words what I felt as I put pen and pencils to paper.

Nasarah, the Unicorn - Guest Heart Thursday

This is Nasarah, the Unicorn.  The last time she appeared on Guest Heart Thursday, she was without color.  Today, in honor of my niece's graduation from preschool to Kindergarten, I have finished the drawing and will be presenting it to her after the ceremony.

My sweet niece--who loves unicorns very much, gave this unicorn its special name.  She says Nasarah's favorite thing to eat is apples.  The unicorn sleeps in the top of an apple tree.  She also eats snowflakes in winter and skates on the ice.  But in summer the unicorn's favorite thing of all is to twirl!  So when you see those little whirlwinds which often swirl the air in summertime?  It's Nasarah the unicorn, twirling to her heart's content.

I know, I know...I have a GREAT imagination!

Sparkle Faery

While on our anniversary trip this past week, I found time to do a little cloud painting.  This lovely faery with sparkles all around was shot recently when the sun was out and rain was falling at the same time.  What a magical combination!  The raindrops sparkled on their way down--as my lady faery grinned up at them.

Above you can see this smiling cloud faery, as I first saw her.

Have a beautiful weekend everyone!

Fabulous Harley

I am nearly done with a commissioned piece of artwork with this Harley as a part of the centerpiece.  I'm so excited--this project has taken months of preparation and time.  I will post it when I'm finished and the "boss" gives the "all clear."  This is a surprise for his dear lady.

Green Eyes - Guest Heart Thursday

I have known this lovely young woman since the day she was born. Something wonderful--almost magical happens when I put pen and pencils to paper to draw her dear face.  You will see her sweet likeness in my drawings quite often.

There is one hidden heart in this drawing.  Can you find it?

Pink Pegasus - Pink Saturday

I have loved stories, myths, legends and fairytales since I was a small child.  I would dream of climbing upon the back of the winged Pegasus to soar into the clouds.

This watercolor of Pegasus is 2.5x3.5 inches--it fits into the palm of my hand.  I don't know why I decided to make this fellow pink--but it fits, don't you think?  Have a lovely Saturday!

Sunflower Dancer - Guest Heart Thursday

With the sunshine we are seeing off and on today, it only seemed right to put up this little Sunflower Dancer.  Yes, there are hearts hidden in the drawing.  How many can you find?

Azure Butterfly Dreams - Guest Heart Thursday

The word "Azure" sounds so perfect with Butterfly Dreams, doesn't it?  Another faery from my active imagination.  Can you find the hearts in this drawing?!  Have a lovey day everyone

Mossy Lassie

I love walking with my darling Sissy through the forests where we played as children.  I remember when I happened to spy this happy collie peeking from the crags of a lichen-covered stump.  She looked a bit like Lassie to me.

You had to stand just so to see her.  Here is the cropped version of  Lassie as I first saw her.

Above you see the original photograph in full. If you look closely, I think there's a craggy brown face there, too.  Because I loved Lassie so much as a child, I thought it especially cool to find my Mossy Lassie in the magical forests of my childhood..

Crickette Kitty

As storm clouds laden with rain scudded across the skies, I caught our little Crickette'  peeking over the tops of the clouds.

Above you see her as I first caught her pouncing upon wisps of the storm.

Here she is again!  I was able to get two shots of our darling kitty before she whiskered her way back to heaven.

And here you see Crickette' as I originally saw her, peeking through the storm.  Of course, I waved.  I'm sure she winked before she flew away.
