Hello Little Flower Fae -Paint Party Friday

I was spending the weekend with my sweet Mumsie--she came to keep me company in the new year.

She's the one who taught my brothers and sisters and me about fairies.  We lived on the edge of a vast forest and explored its mysterious places.  We knew there were real fairies!

Here is a picture of one I remember from my mind's eye as a child.

To Dance Again -Paint Party Friday

Even at my late age, one can dream about dancing again. Dreams are beautiful, and though I may not dance as I did when I was young, who's to say dancing in my "golden years" might be just as lovely.

The days are growing longer again, and I yearn for Spring.  Soon the flowers will bloom again.  I smelled Spring blowing in a southerly wind a few days ago, and I am nostalgic.

On Butterfly Wings -Paint Party Friday

I have always had a daydream of riding on the back of a butterfly to places unknown.  Perhaps it is the child in my heart who still wishes it were possible.  My reference was a vintage postcard from the early 1900's.  I am a big fan of that era in America's history. 

Yesterday in the United  States, we celebrated Thanksgiving.  Indeed, there is so much for which to be thankful.  As I looked around the room where my family gathered, there was music, instruments,  singing and laughter...we ate the good food, joked and laughed some more.  I felt the presence of my dear husband--I know he was smiling as he saw the laughter and love of our family.

Tiny House on Sunset Hill -Paint Party Friday

Hello sweet Friends.  I have been busy speaking in Washington State and then traveling over 500 miles to speak to a wonderful group of ladies in Spokane, Washington!

Whist there, my dear sweet little sis once again introduced me to Sunset Hill.

Amid the gatherings of moss, mushrooms and catnip, we came upon this amazing little home.  You can see how I was inspired.

Abby's Little Fairy Friend -Paint Party Friday

 I am going to see Abby on her birthday.  I am working on her birthday present--and it is half done.  All that's left to do is to add some color!!!  Isn't my sweet Niecey beautiful?  I hope she likes the idea of a wee whimsical fairy sitting in her hair.

Above is my reference picture of dear Abby.  I adore how she's done her hair.  :D  The camera loves this precious young lady.

Grapevines in Spring -Paint Party Friday

Here she is, my Lady of the Grapevines.  I had so much fun putting the detail into this drawing.  One day she will be in my coloring book featuring these beautiful creatures--it will be out sometime next Summer, entitled Fairies, Fine and Fair.

Above you see my lovely models Emily and Melissa.  They are so sweet to pose for me--Melissa on the right, is the young lady featured in this drawing.

It is so beautiful outside today--Spring has finally arrived almost overnight--here in the Willamette Valley.

Blue Faery -Paint Party Friday

I once read a poem which had the whimsical idea that faeries are God's smallest angels.  I rather like that idea.  This little blue faery is a frequent imaginary visitor to my garden. She's part Genie as you can see. She lives in a brown glass bottle next to the fence in my yard, where in summertime she oft comes out to play with the gold fish after dark.

This is a drawing from long ago.  I have been away from my computer for a bit, so haven't had time to scan in my latest artwork.  My reference photo was lost with a tragic crash of a hard drive years ago--so I don't have the original picture to show you--but I can tell you this, she is not only lovely, but she is a sweet and talented young woman.

This Sunday will mark two years since my sweet husband flew away to heaven.  It will be a bittersweet time.  Sometimes it seems like forever since he left us--at other times, it is as though it were just yesterday.  I am also speaking and performing for a women's retreat on Saturday.  I would dearly appreciate your prayers for my family and me.  I continue to improve daily from my surgery.

Family of Faeries -Paint Party Friday

Here is a little family of faeries.  I found them by the river after a wedding.  And such lovely folk they were.  It is fun to be able to see fairies.  

Of course, you know, I have a GREAT imagination!  (grin)  Above you can see my reference photo.  This is Jonny, Amanda and Sophia.  They are such a beautiful little family.

Malaya Rosebud -Paint Party Friday

Years ago, I was given eight rosebushes to plant in my yard.  All seven of these lovely rosebushes grew and flourished.  Indeed, today at the beginning of winter, I can hardly wait for the soft fragrant aroma of roses to waft through the warm summer air. There is something so exquisitely wonderful and precious about every phase of a blooming rose.

This is a piece of art from long ago--as you can see here, roses are also a great favorite among the faeries who often visit my garden.

Here are two of the darling little faeries who frequent my garden.  They especially love to climb on the roses in the early morning.  The tall red rose bush by the wrought iron fence is their favorite!

Painting Roses -Guest Heart Thursday

I've always dreamed the flowers in my garden are colorful because God's littlest angels, the fairies painted them.  When I was a little girl I dreamed of winging from blossom to blossom with my pocket's full of paints.  What fun that would be!  I am so grateful to have had a sister with whom to share those fantastic stories.  My sister.  And today is her birthday!

Fairytale Sisters - Guest Heart Thursday

I'm so sorry I haven't posted for awhile--it has been a pretty hectic summer so far.  This is one of my newest pieces.  It was commissioned by a dear young lady for her sister on her birthday.  Yes there are hearts, hidden of course, in this drawing!

Sissy Clytie Rushed to Hospital

I am letting everyone know that my sweet little sis Clytie was rushed to emergency this morning.  She was in tremendous pain.  This is the second time she's gone into emergency over the past few weeks.  Turns out what the doctors from local urgent care thought might be acid reflux disease--is in reality a blockage in her heart.   

I spoke with Sissy about an hour ago and she is feeling MUCH better.  She says they will be doing an angiogram tomorrow to find out where the blockage is.  After that, they are talking about putting a stent in.  Looks like she will be in the hospital for a few days until they figure out what's going on.

I would appreciate your prayers for Sissy's complete recovery.  She is heart of my heart--and the world would be a terribly dull place without her in it.  She's not only one of my own best friends, she is beloved to many people out there.

Painting Roses

Have you ever wondered how flowers get their colors?

The story I heard, from a lovely faery Painting Roses in my garden, begins as Spring peeks through the snow and rain.  Each morning, she tells me, just before dawn as the dew dries from the petals, young faeries come out to paint the flowers in every hue of the rainbow.  I hear painting petals can become quite difficult when it rains--that is why sometimes the colors of the flowers seem a bit washed out. 

So, now you know!    Hahaaa--I know, I have a GREAT imagination!

Beneath the Arches - Guest heart Thursday

We were traveling through the Mountains on our way to California, when we stopped for lunch near Shasta Lake.  There we encountered this faery duo Beneath the Arches.  We shared our lunch with them.  (grin)  I know--I have a GREAT imagination, don't I?

Of course, since this is Guest Heart Thursday--there are hearts hidden everywhere in this drawing!  Can you find them all?

Forest Treasure

You are probably wondering why this lovely young lady is wearing baseball gloves? I have wondered about that myself. Sometimes things just happen when drawing a picture. Hmmmm . . . . If you have any ideas, I'd love to hear from you!

This picture is a mixture of art mediums. I used graphite pencils to sketch my idea onto the paper. I put in the detail with indelible ink using various sized ink tips, erasing the pencil lines. My beloved Prismacolor pencils added color--after which I inked in crucial lines and detail which the beezwax from the colored pencils had blurred. I scanned the picture into my computer. Then I used an art program to add bright sparkles and shine to the faery and gloves.

Fairy Sisters Three -- Wishing You a VERY Merry Christmas

These are three fairies who often visit in my garden during the summer months. (grin) They are full of the dickens and love to play tricks on the poor raccoons who often rumble through our yard in the wee hours of the morning. Tch tch tch--it's a good thing they're so cute! Today they are whimsically smiling, "A Merry Christmas to all!"

.This piece of art is just a portion of a much larger drawing. The original is 1 1/2 feet by 2 1/2 feet. I was just learning the use of various mediums together--and I used the wrong kind of paper. Because the art paper was too thin, it rumpled.

Pin Cushion Faery

I was in the hospital when I drew this lovely little faery. I did not start drawing with the idea of a faery sitting on a pin cushion. I didn't imagine her with those quilted wings--she just sort of evolved that way as I worked with my pencil.

Byron's Lessons

Even faeries teach their children a trade. Here a little faery Mom teaches her small boy how to scent a flower and put its colors into place. However, seeing that mischievous look, I'm sure when she's not looking, one might find a crazy pattern of pinks, blues and greens splashed across the flower's petals.

Daddy Update: Dad made a breakthrough this morning! He actually got up and made coffee this morning. He was able to go outside with his walker yesterday afternoon--he even walked a few paces with his cane. Dad is healing faster than anyone could predict. Thanks to the prayers of people everywhere, I believe we are watching a miracle unfold! Thank you! Keep praying--Dad sees the neck doctors the first of September!

Four Fair Faeries

After yesterday's serious post, I was thinking a more whimsical subject to be in order. So here we go--these four fair faeries are obviously related. In fact, two of them live in my garden, and the other two live in my Sissy Clytie's garden.

I just happened to catch these frisky little faeries as they happily visited together one fine afternoon--they were up to mischief in the roses growing along the wrought iron fence. You see the roses are red in my drawing? By the time the mischievous quartet had done their worst--my lovely flowers were resplendent in hot pink and electric orange with finely traced black stripes! Tch tch tch . . .

One might even think they were cousins. . .

I know, I know--I have a GREAT imagination! (But if I were one of those naughty little faeries, I'd have GREAT fun coloring those roses, just to see the look on the gardener's face.)
