The Lady and the Lambs -Paint Party Friday

This is a graphite rendering from 2005, of an old picture my Mother loved. It was a gift from long ago--the person who gave it to Mums said she looked just like this beautiful woman. It is true! Indeed, in her younger years, Mumsie was beautiful--but not in the classical sense. She is still lovely--a stately yet mischievous and fun lady whom everyone loves.

Years ago, when color programs were first coming out, I scanned my sketch into the computer, then played with the paint programs. I was astonished to see so much color coming from a grey and white graphite drawing--I saved the results. But after that, any attempts to recreate these color patterns failed. I wonder . . .

May Flower Heart, ACEO - Random Challenge

Our Mission, through Random Challenges, was to make an ACEO/ATC using whatever art medium I choose--with the following theme:  May Flowers!

This is a piece of computer art I was experimenting with--using the filters I found in Photoshop.  I just love this picture--I was able to catch the beautiful color of the May Flower, along with having a lot of fun experimenting with a new art medium.

Forest Treasure

You are probably wondering why this lovely young lady is wearing baseball gloves? I have wondered about that myself. Sometimes things just happen when drawing a picture. Hmmmm . . . . If you have any ideas, I'd love to hear from you!

This picture is a mixture of art mediums. I used graphite pencils to sketch my idea onto the paper. I put in the detail with indelible ink using various sized ink tips, erasing the pencil lines. My beloved Prismacolor pencils added color--after which I inked in crucial lines and detail which the beezwax from the colored pencils had blurred. I scanned the picture into my computer. Then I used an art program to add bright sparkles and shine to the faery and gloves.

Cloudy Day Nap

After all the hard work she's been doing over the past few weeks, the sweet angel has decided to get a little cloudy day shut-eye!

This is a pen and ink drawing I scanned into the computer. The drawing is one of my very first experiments adding digital color, using a VERY old computer paint program. It is rare for me to add color using the computer. I prefer the old fashioned way of doing things!

In honor of Mother's Day I'm re-posting The Lady and the Lambs.

This drawing is dedicated to our own darling Mumsie. When Mum was young and unsure of herself, her Father gave her a picture--he told Mum she looked just like the lovely woman in the picture, and that she was beautiful. A few years ago, Mum and I actually found a copy of the original drawing on a card, so I bought it for her. I loved the old photo so much I used it as my inspiration for this graphite drawing.

Now here's the fun part! I photographed my drawing (it is very big), and ran it through a new photo enhancing program I was learning at that time. The resulting picture was infused with a brilliant rainbow of color.


I was astonished, and oddly, I never was able to duplicate those colors again. There's a little bit of a miracle in every day, don't you think? And to be a Mother is one of the greatest miracles of all.

Touch Not the Elf

This is my first attempt at using the computer in my art. First I did a pen and ink drawing, then scanned it into the computer where I added the stars and color.

It is not nearly as sophisticated as what I have learned to do since, but there is a certain lovely simplicity about this drawing which speaks to me. It is whimsical, both in simplicity and title. Touch Not the Elf is one of my favorites, and I am very happy to share her with you.
