Nasarah, the Unicorn - Guest Heart Thursday

This is Nasarah, the Unicorn.  The last time she appeared on Guest Heart Thursday, she was without color.  Today, in honor of my niece's graduation from preschool to Kindergarten, I have finished the drawing and will be presenting it to her after the ceremony.

My sweet niece--who loves unicorns very much, gave this unicorn its special name.  She says Nasarah's favorite thing to eat is apples.  The unicorn sleeps in the top of an apple tree.  She also eats snowflakes in winter and skates on the ice.  But in summer the unicorn's favorite thing of all is to twirl!  So when you see those little whirlwinds which often swirl the air in summertime?  It's Nasarah the unicorn, twirling to her heart's content.

I know, I know...I have a GREAT imagination!

Sparkle Faery

While on our anniversary trip this past week, I found time to do a little cloud painting.  This lovely faery with sparkles all around was shot recently when the sun was out and rain was falling at the same time.  What a magical combination!  The raindrops sparkled on their way down--as my lady faery grinned up at them.

Fabulous Harley

I am nearly done with a commissioned piece of artwork with this Harley as a part of the centerpiece.  I'm so excited--this project has taken months of preparation and time.  I will post it when I'm finished and the "boss" gives the "all clear."  This is a surprise for his dear lady.

Green Eyes - Guest Heart Thursday

I have known this lovely young woman since the day she was born. Something wonderful--almost magical happens when I put pen and pencils to paper to draw her dear face.  You will see her sweet likeness in my drawings quite often.

Pink Pegasus - Pink Saturday

I have loved stories, myths, legends and fairytales since I was a small child.  I would dream of climbing upon the back of the winged Pegasus to soar into the clouds.

This watercolor of Pegasus is 2.5x3.5 inches--it fits into the palm of my hand.  I don't know why I decided to make this fellow pink--but it fits, don't you think?  Have a lovely Saturday!

Mossy Lassie

I love walking with my darling Sissy through the forests where we played as children.  I remember when I happened to spy this happy collie peeking from the crags of a lichen-covered stump.  She looked a bit like Lassie to me.

You had to stand just so to see her.  Here is the cropped version of  Lassie as I first saw her.

Above you see the original photograph in full. If you look closely, I think there's a craggy brown face there, too.  Because I loved Lassie so much as a child, I thought it especially cool to find my Mossy Lassie in the magical forests of my childhood..

Crickette Kitty

As storm clouds laden with rain scudded across the skies, I caught our little Crickette'  peeking over the tops of the clouds.

 Above you see her as I first caught her pouncing upon wisps of the storm.

Here she is again!  I was able to get two shots of our darling kitty before she whiskered her way back to heaven.

And here you see Crickette' as I originally saw her, peeking through the storm.  Of course, I waved.  I'm sure she winked before she flew away.

Lady Wisteria- Guest Heart Thursday

This piece is a commissioned drawing for a friend of mine.  It is of her lovely Mother.  I put an Art Nouveau feel to the drawing--and there are hearts everywhere.  How many can YOU find?

Supernatural

Walking along the banks of the Willamette River near my home, I was excited to share the beauty of the area with my young Friend, Casi.  She was seeking new willow for basket weaving.  We also share a passion for herbs and wild plants, so I enjoyed learning how to use them.  For example, I learned the leaves, flowers and berries of the Hawthorne tree are not only good for high blood pressure, but can soothe the wheezing breath of an asthmatic.

I took many pictures of sky and waters.  I was sure I had captured a face in the clouds.  Several days later, when I looked at the pictures from our walk, I could hardly believe what I saw.

I often sense the supernatural--the footsteps and Presence of Him whom I love, as I walk in the forests, slip down to my beloved river, or work among the plants in my garden.  As you see, we were not alone.

Watching Over You

I thought it was about time to put up another Cloud painting.  I know this is one I've shared before, but there's a reason I'm putting it up again.

I just received a phone call from someone I've never met, who's seen my artwork down at the Starduster Diner located at our little airport.  He wants to buy it right off the wall!  I feel so astonished.

But perhaps not.  I know there are angels watching over the pilots as they fly.  If I were a pilot, I'd want this hanging on my wall, too. 

My first rendition of this piece did not have the angel.   I had sent a small copy to one of our friends, who's little granddaughter saw it sitting on her piano.  The tiny girl was excited to point out the angel protecting the airplane.  As you can see in the original photo, there IS an angel there.  But it took a little child to see it!

Sleepy Hills - Guest Heart Thursday

I love the Columbia Gorge.  Watching the mountains along the banks of the Great Columbia River, my imagination runs wild.  Here you see these sleeping hills warning all to silence before a well deserved nap.

Quiet, Please - Guest Heart Thursday

While we were at the Coast last week, a winter storm roared in our ears for two days.  It was difficult to find a way home because of downed trees, snow in the mountains and flooding!  I would have loved to have been stranded at the beach--but alas, we finally made it home.

This is the mermaid who made her appearance during those stormy days.  Clearly she wants the wind to quiet down!  Yes, there are hearts everywhere in this painting--how many can you find?

FATuesday Artist Spotlight #60

Note:  I apologize for being gone for so long.  Just after Christmas, my external hard drive suffered a fall and would not work.  I still don't know if years of photography can be rescued.  Though I didn't lose everything -- I had some things backed up -- I was grief-stricken.  I admit that I lost heart for awhile.  But I'm back!  This week's featured artists have been particularly inspiring to my heart.

I created Featured Art Tuesday Artist Spotlight, a showcase of inspiring Artists, as a forum for all Artists to share their work with one another -- this includes every type of medium, sculpture, cooking, beading, watercolour, restoring vintage cars, pen and ink, oils, gardening, interior decorating, photography and crafts, including drama, writing and poetry. 

The list goes on and on.
 

Each one of us is creative in one way, or another -- FATuesday Artist Spotlight celebrates that creativity.

I only recently found Sherry Dole’s art and was immeasurably charmed.  I was so inspired by her eclectic use of color and the graceful, playful faces of her subjects.  What lovely artwork. I imagine it would be a wonderous, fanciful journey to view the world through Sherry’s eyes!  I look forward to getting better acquainted with this gifted artist.

Sherry writes, “I absolutely Looooove animals and nature so I donate a portion of my sales to various animal shelters and welfare groups.  I have two gorgeous dogs, a Pit Bull who I adopted as a Hurricane Katrina survivor and a sort of red Golden Retriever who was adopted from a local shelter. I have four cats, all rescues, who frequently model for me., altho not always willingly.”

Having lost our own little Bootz a year ago, I was deeply touched by the artwork of Crystal Shannon.  The animals she draws almost seem to move.  She has captured the personality of these beloved pets in a way which seems almost magical.  I am so moved and inspired by this amazing artist. 

Crystal writes, “For over 25 years I have been a student of art.  And I will always be a student as I am continually learning and polishing my skills as an artist.  I have always been inspired by the beauty of nature and wildlife.  I have always really loved animals, and that is another inspiration of mine, and why I love doing pet portraits so much.”
