Sneaking a Peek, ACEO - Guest Heart Thursday

Here you see our Bootz napping next to a wall covered with hearts.  That birdie perched on her tail had better watch out!  She's sneaking a peek.  And is likely to pounce once she's all the way awake!

Bootz is our kitten with the extraordinarily long tail!  I created this cartoon, using her playful personality.

I found Al's wonderful photography blog some time ago.  This is one of his photos from many years ago.  A one time lecturer, writer on European Affairs and bus conductor, Alan Burnett now divides his time between walking the dog and a little harmless blogging.  I have been inspired by his gifted photography work, I know  you will be too!

I have followed Peggy for a year or so.  She is SO creative--and inspiring!  Peggy says, "I often use old family pictures in my pieces and feel good about giving them birth again. I love to laugh, am very sentimental, and cry more happy tears than sad ones."  She enjoys seeing all the new art of her artist Friends and says she learns something new every day.  She is an inspiration!

I found Diane's blog through Illustration Friday.  Her work is whimsical and precious.  She says, "I like smiling. Smiling's my favorite."  This happy attitude is reflected in her artwork.  Diane is a brilliant, thoughtful artist who's work delights the eye and tickles the funnybone.

The poetry of Tess Kincaid captures the imagination.  She is a talented writer who's unique viewpoint often causes one to ponder.  Her poetry is exquisite and poignant.

This artist uses color, patterns and words in a way that delights my soul.  One of her greatest inspirations is her eldest daughter who was mostly silent until she was three.  This wonderful Artist/Mom writes, "Then poof - nearly overnight - she started dispensing crisp, neatly articulated sentences based on the speech pattern of a 90 year old and the grammar rules from another planet."  I find it wonderful that this artist  has been inspired by her own dear little girl and this charming artwork is the result.

Ivy

As I type, Bootz the cat is sprawling upon my desk, watching each keystroke I make with GREAT interest.  We shall see how far I get before she attacks my fingers, or the keyboard! 

This is another of the drawings I created on our trip to Spokane.  I used Prismacolor pencils to add these brilliant colors.  My problem was that I used a different brand of ink pens.  The colored pencils caused the ink to smear into her delicate peach complection.  My solution was to add ivy leaves onto her face to create a more surreal effect.

You won't believe this, but Bootz the cat is playing with the, er, mouse.  Tch tch tch--as I type these words, the mouse pointer icon is wildly swinging over the monitor screen!

I have been down with the the mungus gungus for four days.  While I was ill, I created this little ACEO (2.5x3.5 inch) card.

There's just something about it, which delights my eyes--and makes me feel all better.

Love at First Sight - Guest Heart Thursday

I have done a set of 20 small cartoons featuring our funny new cat Boots.  She has a longer than normal tail, so I have made this a part of the cartoon.  Boots has now learned to open doors and cupboards.  She is VERY smart and gets into a lot of trouble.  She's filled our life with laughter.

I am in awe of Desiree's talent!  She dabbles in many mediums, one of which is painting.  As you can see from this piece her work is amazing.  Her quilts are also extraordinary.  This talented artist's imagination has no bounds.  She says, "I am on a creative journey, and I would love for you to join me. Multimedia entertainment! Who knows what I will be working on next!?"

I only recently discovered the inspiring work of Bleu Turrell.  His graphite illustrations are soft and detailed.  They take my breath away.  Bleu writes, "My creative focus has been art and illustration for a while. I like to play around and try new things."

 Krista's artwork always makes me smile.  There is something about her sense of humor and the way she see life--and shares it with the rest of the world that delights my heart.  She says, "I love to paint anything that celebrates life and the God who made us."  Indeed, her artwork shouts with joy!

Paula is a writer of poems and deeply thoughtful words.  She photoshops her poetry into old postcards and vintage artwork.  There have been so many times she has put into words, that nebulous thing which my heart senses and feels, but cannot express.  Her heart is so tender, her thoughts so touching.

Angel Blessings

We were at the Koffee Konnection across the street from the Glockenspeil Restaurant and Pub yesterday, when I spotted an angel overhead.  This sweet Bavarian Angel seemed to be leaving a blessing of hope over the wonderful town of Mt. Angel.  What a lovely sight to see!  And so perfect for the upcoming Oktoberfest!

My sister Clytie introduced me to this amazing photographer/philosopher some time ago.  Prospero's wonderful pictures and accompanying comments always give one pause to ponder.  The above photo is Autumn.  The contrasting photo for summer is equally lovely.

Ten years ago, on our 17th Anniversary, my husband and I stayed in beautiful Gig Harbor, Washington.  As we perused the shops, I found an artist from Texas, I loved.  She had painted river rocks as cats and animals so exquisitely, I thought they might move.  I never forgot her name or her work.  Years later I joined an art group, where, to my delight, I found Lynn once more.  She has become a good friend.  You can see why her work inspires me so.  I believe she is quite possibly one of great artists of our time.

Dollores began to create bronze sculptures after she and her husband had raised six children--one of whom is our darling SissyDea, Deann.  A self taught sculptor, Dollores began her work at age 60!  Now 82, she is still active in the arts community.  From 1994-95 to 1997-98, her amazing life-sized pieces were selected to be featured in Cypress Gardens Endangered Species Sculpture Park, Winter Haven FL. Dollores has sold her work throughout the United States and has received awards on several of her pieces.  Dollores is one of my inspirations!  I am honored to know this great lady.

Rose is a new Friend.  Her handmade dolls are exquisite in every detail.  Every time I visit her blog, I am in awe.  She creates in three-dimensions, what I would draw in two.  Rose has captured the essence of Faery and all things imaginative.  I am privileged to know this incredible artist.

Perhaps you are wondering about Photings.  I did!  Photings are simply jottings on photos!  I do not know much about this artist, but there have been days I have needed the wisdom found in a Photing.  The words are perfectly suited to the marvelous photography.  To see more of these beautifully crafted sayings, visit Photings.

Sunspot

I created this piece of surreal artwork on our long drive to Spokane, Washington State.  On that eight hour drive, we drove through a dust storm--which I had never experienced before.  This lovely little Sunspot is the result of that frightening experience!

Darlene is a wonderful artist, who's talents extend to sculpture and doll making.  This 16" x 20" canvas is one of her favorite pieces, called "Cherish."  She used paints, some old music, a copy of an antique book cover and molding paste to create this amazing artwork.  Darlene believes mixed media arts give us a rich balance of creative freedom.

This exquisitely detailed ACEO (2.5x3.5 inch) card was created by my niece Tory.  I traded one of my own ACEO pieces for it--I think I got the better half of the deal.  She created this piece with ball point pens, in about an hour.  It is a lace of intricacy which intrigues and delights my eyes.

Tory is a wonderful artist - her graphite drawings look so real they might move.  I will be featuring more of her artwork in the days ahead.  Please encourage this incredible young artist by visiting Tori at Tori's Artwork!

Dave's artwork boggles my mind.  He is a sixty-two year old artist with a taste for history and the printed word. This incredibly creative artist been drawing envelopes for well over fifty years and still continues to do so, as he says, "either on a whim, or of necessity."  His exquisitely detailed artwork is an inspiration to me.

Amber Day's artwork is delicate and absolutely beautiful. Amber is a self-taught artist who's work is a favorite of collectors on Ebay, where she is known as animaegirl.    Amber is the lovely artist who helped me get started on Etsy and Ebay--she has been a huge inspiration and encouragement to me.  She is wonderful.

I have been captured by Henny's wonderful photography and artwork for more than a year.  This is an example of the unique quality of her drawings.  She sees the world in a way which inspires me.   Her recent set of photos capturing the progress of a caterpiller spinning a cocoon fills my heart with wonder.

FAT Tuesday - #1

Today is FAT Tuesday!  This is the VERY FIRST Featured Artist Tuesday ever!  I've started this special day to honor all the wonderful artists who have been an inspiration to me.  Each Tuesday I will be featuring five of these delightfully unique individuals.  I am sure you will enjoy their work as much as I do!

I also want to provide a forum for artists to share their work with one another--this includes all types of arts and crafts, including photography.  If you would like to take part in FAT Tuesday, check out the guidelines at the bottom of the page.

My sister Clytie is one of the most creative people I know.  She's never considered herself an artist but I've always known  better.  This is one of her amazing ACEO cards.

The card is made of graffiti peeled from the walls of an abandoned building.  She spray painted a real spiderweb, captured it on the card, then added a spider, cut from more graffiti.  These are one of a kind cards--each is exquisitely made from GENUINE graffiti, trash, recycled wallpaper and found treasures.  To see more of Clytie's altogether cool artwork, visit  Random He'Art'Work.

Deann is a wonderful artist who's work with photoshop baffles my mind.  This is just a sample of her amazing artwork!  Deann is one of my favorite people--her lovely whimsical nature shines through this wonderful piece entitled Dragonfly Dreams.  You can see more of Deann's artist's heart at The Whimsey Asylum.

Megan Coyle's work is fascinating.  To create these incredible works of art, she cuts tiny pieces of color from magazines and newspapers--then puts them together to create wonderful pieces such as the Crane.  This piece is currently hanging in the Goodwin exhibit.  To see more of her unique artwork visit Megan at Megan Coyle - Collage Artist.

Goldfish Steampunk

Wouldn't it be a surprise to look into a pond and find these two frisking about with the Goldfish? 

I am a member of a group of artists who love to draw Merfolk.  The challenge this month was to draw merfolk in Steampunk.  I did a lot of research and learned alot.  Since I love Goldfish so much, I decided to draw them for August's challenge.

Gentle Rose - Guest Heart Thursday

Can you find the hearts?  This is one of the bookmarks I create--it is my gift to you this beautiful summer day.  It is a celebration of summer's ending, memories of sunshine and flowers, birds and blue skies.  (The bookmark is lovely when printed in color on glossy photo paper.)

I also wanted to honor Dani, a lady who's unique photography delights my soul.  She is off to China for a time and she will be sorely missed.

Catching Bubbles

Here is another of my "Merfolk" drawings.  This little fellow is just learning to swim.  His babysitters, these darling fish, are blowing bubbles up in front of the baby's nose and he's trying to chase them.

In my mind's eye, the baby's hands and arms are kicking like the dickens.  He's so excited over those bubbles!

Leigh Grin

This is a portrait of my delightful youngest sister Leigh. She actually liked it, and hung the original in her house!

Using acrylics, this painting is one of the first surreal pieces I've ever created. The funny thing is, it actually does kind of look like my sister--the impish, fun side of her.

Truly, I have been blessed with two of the most wonderful sisters in the entire world.
