I created Featured Art Tuesday Artist Spotlight, to showcase inspiring Artists and to provide a forum for all Artists to share their work with one another -- this includes every type of medium, sculpture, beading, watercolour, restoring vintage cars, pen and ink, oils, gardening, interior decorating, photography and crafts, including drama, writing and poetry. I have known Casi since she was a tiny girl.  An accomplished young artist in many mediums, Casi and her fellow artisans have been trained to create these exquisitely crafted glass earrings.  Designed by AnneMarie Hoffman, they come in a variety of pretty colors and are incredibly graceful and eye-catching.  When one holds a pair of these original creations in one's own hands, the warmth and beauty of the glass is indescribable.  There is a kind of lovely magic here which inspires me.

Casi and her fellow artists "..are dedicated to making this world a more beautiful place, one pair of earrings at a time. All of our raw glass is manufactured within a 15 mile radius of our studio and all of our jewelry is produced in our Portland studio by extremely skilled hands.”

I found Lillie Marie's blog quite by accident.  This gifted artisan creates unusual jewelry which reflects her great love for our Creator.  Her charming pieces fill both the eyes and the heart.  She inspires me to stretch beyond what I think I can do.  

Lillie thoughtfully writes, “I am so thankful that my body and mind are both able to do all the things required to do on Mondays,  I could be minus my eyesight, where I couldn't see my home that needs so much done or without proper use of my limbs, I could be an invalid, being unable to do anything without help,  There are so many women in the world whether sick and/or disabled mentally or physically that would love to be able to enjoy Mondays by having all these things to do.”

Chuck Neighbors has been an inspiration to my husband and me for many years.  The first drama I saw him perform was powerful and changed my life forever.  This wonderful local actor has been a huge encouragement to us and to many other dramatists.  He has been generous with his time and advice.  His dramas are truly stunning and his acting is superb.

Chuck writes, “Shakespeare knew the power of the play to capture a conscience and even after four hundred years, things haven’t changed much. Today, as it has been for centuries, it is the play, the movie, the story that entertains us, giving expression to our thoughts and feelings, and yes, capturing our conscience.  I found Julia Ruffles through some of my artist friends on  Facebook.  What an incredible artist.  I am enamored with the detail in her work.  As a watercolourist she is inspiring.  Her love for animals bursts through her work--shines through the speaking eyes of her wild animal friends.  The only word I could use to describe this talented artist's work is fabulous.  

Julia reflectively writes, “The painting process requires a great deal of patience, with countless watercolour marks built up using many differing colours and brushstrokes...Watercolour as a medium (for painting) has a great strength yet subtle vulnerability that allows the delicacy of life to be portrayed...”

I have always loved tatting.  For those of you have never heard of it, tatting is an ancient way of making intricate lace using knots and shuttles.  I was delighted to find Pamela Quevedo's daintily tatted fashion items -- What an uncommon art form!  When I found her beautifully unique creations, I felt inspired to get back into tatting again.  Thank you Pamela!

I found Lisa Adams and her delightful artwork on facebook through some of my art friends.  What a charming collection of artwork she has.  This gifted artist always makes me smile with the antics of her cat and mouse friends.  I saw an original of Lisa's work at a friend's home, it was exquisite.  The detail she puts into some of her tiny paintings is mind-boggling.

Lisa writes, "I am a self taught artist, specializing in animals, through small format art and ACEO's. I have studied the art and writings of numerous wildlife and nature artists for over 20 years, and continue to educate myself to this day. My work can be found in homes throughout the world, and I hope it brings joy or at least a chuckle to those who own it."

It was love at first sight when I found Lindsey's Dinky Darlings.  Her whimsical sculptures of faeries and elves are so lovely.  I adore them.  How she is able to put so much personality and joy into these small beings is a mystery to me.  Lindsey has a delightful sense of humor which makes me laugh out loud sometimes.  Visit her website and you'll see what I mean!

Lindsay writes, "I start out with a lump of clay some wire and just let my created hands create ... no molds  so each in a one of a kind the only one like it in the whole world ... most all have a head, hands, and feet ( or shoes ) sculpted out of a mix of polymer clays then their head tilts their arms bend and legs move just about anyway you would like them to .... so fun to pose them, most will sit stand or lay down. They can sit in a chair or on a shelf ... but for those of us who believe, know you may want to keep your eye on them since they may not stay put !!!  Fairies are little stinkers you know, especially mine ... I know where all the missing socks, remotes, and  keys go ( the fairies took them ), so watch out when you invite one into your home.  Things might just come up missing ...now you can blame it on the fairies."

One of my favorite places to visit as a kid, was Peterson's Rock Garden.  I have wonderful memories of this magical place.  There you can find miniature buildings, monuments, lagoons, and bridges, surrounded by lush gardens with lily ponds and little streams.  

Ramus Peterson built his rock garden with colorful Oregon rocks--agates, obsidian, petrified wood, malachite and jasper.  What an incredibly creative artist he was!  This wonderful artist was only 17 when he left Denmark in 1900.  Eventually he settled near Redmond, Oregon.  Over the years, he collected all kinds of colorful local rocks from an 85-mile radius of his home. Ramus started building with them in 1935.  At first, it was just a small rockery near his home.By the time he died in 1952, he left a legacy of artwork enfolding four acres of incredible beauty.

Ramus loved his new country.  In front of the Statue of liberty he built, rests a bronze plaque upon which he wrote, "Enjoy yourself: it's later than you think."

This wonderful rock garden is still open to this day.  It is a lovely place to visit when driving through Central Oregon.  There are more beautiful pictures of this wonderful place at The Peterson's Rock Garden.

Here is another talented artist who's humor delights my eyes.  I only recently discovered the artwork of Karen Vesk.  Her hilarious cats ride bikes, sometimes sport sunglasses and  have all kinds of zany adventures.

  

Karen writes of her website, "Welcome... Here you'll find some of the sauciest, cutest, silliest art around."  And it is true--you can't help but smile when you set eyes on Karen's artwork.

I adore the flower pastel above done by Peggy Gato.  This versatile artist dabbles in many mediums--even pastels!  I have a great admiration for anyone who can make something beautiful using pastels.  As you can see, that is exactly what Peggy has done!  What an amazing artist she is!

Peggy writes, "I love pastel ! I do a painting with the pastels and then go back and add color and details by using water and a brush. I shave the pastels I want to use with an exacto knife into a small palette. Then I dip a brush into water and mixed the "powder" to add more colors. It gives it a nice painterly look."

FAT Tuesday Artist Spotlight #18

Some of you have asked about the Name "FAT Tuesday."  It is merely a clever acronym my sweet Sis and I came up with for Featured Art Tuesday! 

I created Featured Art Tuesday (FAT Tuesday) Artist Spotlight, to showcase inspiring Artists and to provide a forum for all Artists to share their work with one another--this includes every type of medium, photography and crafts, including writing and poetry.  
I hope you will join in the fun!

J. Stephen Hunter is one of my favorite artists.  He is incredibly imaginative and creative, as you will see when you look at the various mediums he uses.  Not only does he paint light in a way I've never seen before, but he creates whimsical clocks, beautiful things out of leaves and is a gifted photographer.  I have met this gentle, brilliant teacher in person.  He has inspired my heart in every area of my own art.  

He writes, "…I love being an artist.  I know I am one because the voices in my head all come from my right brain! Creativity is my adrenaline so I'm continually doing new things and avoiding repetition. I hope I never get pigeon-holed into “this is what I do.”

I have the lovely privilege of knowing this artist personally.  Amber Day is a self-taught artist, who's beautifully detailed watercolors are exceptional.  She constantly surprises me with her imagination and wit.  She makes me laugh, yet there is often an interesting pathos to be found in her art.  There is a whimsical quality to her work which greatly inspires me.  You can find Amber's collectible artwork for sale on Ebay under animaegirl! I own a few pieces of her work, so I feel especially blessed!

Of herself, Amber simply writes, "I am a stay-at-home Mom, artist, and author.  I've been happily married for 12 years now (we are still on our honeymoon).  I'm a life long Oregonian and love the greenery and mountainous landscape of this state!"

Bill Ross is new to me.  I LOVE his hilarious cartoons.  They make me laugh and his concepts are brilliant.  I hope to see more of this artist's inspiring work!  

Bill writes,  "I was... fortunate to make the brilliant decision to move to Nashville, Tennessee, the greatest city on the planet. I know, that's a debatable assessment of Nashville, but I really, really like it here. I'm convinced that if I could sing, play an instrument, or were good looking, I could be a country music star. Till then, I make my living drawin' funny pictures, and painting rectangular paintings."

Melinda Lincoln-Napoletano is one of the most thoughtful, inspiring individuals I've had the pleasure of knowing.  Her eclectic pieces are a study in contrasts--her poetry is moving and her thoughts are profound.

She writes, "I still believe in magic and dreams and that I am the one in charge of creating my own reality. This is a very magical time of year and I absolutely refuse to let anyone destroy that for me. This next year will be a time of growth for me....of making dreams come true and accomplishing goals....of determination and hard work...of changes.....and to be honest...I am tired of waiting around for my life to sort of happen on its own....I gotta make whatever happen happen if I want it to....so look out 2011!"

I found Rosie Rowe in my search for inchys.  They are tiny detailed one-by-one inch drawings--Rosie's are exquisite!  However, once I'd lost myself in her blog, I found even more treasure.  She is a very creative lady.  One of my favorites is the piece I found above.  What a beauty!  And how very inspiring.   

Rosie writes, "...the more I write, the more occurs to me and I lose myself in the page. I don’t have time at the moment to set aside proper time for art journaling. I sit with a tray on my lap to support my French Kitty book, a glue stick, my printouts, scissors and a couple of clear tubs which hold my most used pens and pencils, my tin of Neocolour Brights II and a watercolor brush."

Brenda Mousseau's artwork is charming and inspiring.  I love her watercolors--they're so whimsical and full of life.  I only recently became acquainted with this wonderful artist!

After she stopped painting for a time, she writes about her return as an artist, "...I stopped painting for a long time. I've decided to finish it. Mostly because I feel compelled to start painting again, because not painting makes me miserable"  I have been through this myself.  I deeply admire this precious woman's courage.  I am SO glad she began painting again.

Niki is also new to me.  Her latest project is a hand-made calendar.  Each picture is original and designed so it can be removed to frame!  Her work is whimsical and makes me smile. What a creative lady!  She has this calender up for SALE!

Here is another artist--Lorrie Bennett from Fort Myers, Florida--who's artwork just boggles my mind.  This is an ACEO card--only 3.5x2.5 inches big--yet the detail is exquisite. I am a great admirer of hers.  This piece was especially inspiring. 

She writes, "I can't stop! I can't! It's crazy! I am officially an ACEO addict. I have really loved this form of art for quite a while now because it allows me to create just about anywhere! A few small supplies in my purse and when the moment allows...off to the world of creating..."

Brenda's "Dollings" are SO adorable!  They have such a darlingness about them--I want to hug each and every one of these whimsical creations.  I especially loved the one pictured above.

She writes, "Little Dollings were born in the fall of 2006, at my kitchen table, overlooking my backyard garden. Three years and many dollings later, they now originate from "The Artsy Room", a space created especially for them."

J. Steven Hunt is an amazing artist.  I have had the honor of meeting this extraordinary artist personally.  He paints light.  His work fills my eyes and inspires me.  Steve is a master of many mediums--I found myself hard pressed as to which of his marvelous pieces to spotlight.  You'll be pleased to discover many of his paintings, both originals and prints are actually for sale!  You'll also love his clocks, which are whimsical and delight the eye.

Steve writes, "I guess I just love being an artist. I know I am one because the voices in my head all come from my right brain! Creativity is my adrenaline so I'm continually doing new things and avoiding repetition. I hope I never get pigeon-holed into “this is what I do.” I like photography, graphic design, acrylic painting, oil painting, woodworking, etc."

I believe Steve is another of the great artists of our age.  It is amazing that this great, yet humble man takes time to talk to, and advise artists who do not have his extensive experience.  He is a mentor and a teacher at heart.

I found Tammie Lee through my Sister, Clytie.  Her exquisite images and lovely poetry are stunning.  I know the word "Stunning" is sometimes over used these days--but Tammie's photography can be described by exactly that word.  She is a brilliant photographer and artist who inspires my soul.

She says, "Capturing the beauty of our natural world with photography is a great passion for me...It is my attempt to capture a spirit that uplifts and ignites the majesty in our hearts."

I have had so much fun getting to know Darlene.  She is a lovely lady who's effervescence is irresistible!  These are some of the dolls she's been making for the holiday season!  They are hand-made, seven inches tall and are on display at her local Art Center.  She is a multi-dimensional artist, who's work  enchants the eye.

She writes, "for some reason I just can't help but laugh to myself at these dolls. They just all have 'attitude' and when I set them together they look like they belong as a family and should never part from each other... I realize small things are so much more difficult then larger dollz... it is great fun creating these though... each has their own unique personality.. enjoy!"

Here is another of my favorite artists, Lynn Risor.  She is an inspiration to me.  I have no idea how she is able to create the beautiful paintings she does--but I am grateful to God for her presence in this world.  She also does incredible murals, as well as animals painted on rocks which look so real they almost seem to move.  She is a brilliantly gifted artist.

Lynn writes, "I paint a LOT!!!  I'm a self-taught Texas whimsy artist.  Every time I paint anything that turns out half way 'OK' ... I'm tickled pink!!!"

I have one of the most talented Sisters in the world.  Her creativity knows no bounds.  She is an artist,  creative writer and photographer.  Clytie sees things from a fascinating perspective. She finds unexpected beauty all around -- it might be a rusted hubcap, a tree reflected in a piece of broken window, or a hunk of unidentified metal lying in the leaves.  Clytie is one of my biggest inspirations.  She is a part of my heart -- her random way of seeing our world delights and fills my eyes.  She writes, "I see things differently. But that's okay. I am an artist. In my own way."

Martina is from Germany and I love her way of looking at her world.  She sees textures and colors in nature and is inspired by them, to create wonderful pieces of jewelry such as you see above.  This amazing artist once saw a photo I took of some lichen--which inspired her to dye various textured cloths.  The result was breathtaking! Martina is one of the most creative people I know.  I'm pleased to tell you that this extravagantly gorgeous necklace along with other items are actually available for sale!   She writes of her blog, "This is the place where I want to share dreams and visions.  As well as for my love of needlework as for all things vintage and antique: fabrics, furniture, dresses, etc.  For photography and other visual arts.  For Music and cooking.  For beauty in our lives."

I was just so in awe when I saw this incredible quilt design by Carol!  She is such a warm and lovely individual.  I am privileged to have found her here in blog land.  As you can see from the star quilt above, Carol is a talented artist! She writes, "...I am 82 years old and have been blessed with a wonderful family and good health. Keeping busy is no problem for me - in fact, I can't find time to do cleaning and cooking anymore. I have been quilting for about 35 years. Working on this computer is so amazing - how glad I am that I got in on this in my lifetime."

I found Sunny through my sister Clytie.  She is a talented photographer who's photos are spiced with unusual angles and gorgeous scenery.  I love her photography!  The photo above is no exception--the dappled shadow on the old red barn with the silhouette of old wheel in front is just spectacular!   We once visited Massachusetts so I laughed when I read she and her husband now reside in the mountains of that state.  The mountains there we would call hills here in the Pacific Northwest!  Dear Sunny writes, "for nearly 30 years I lived on Cape Cod before my husband and I moved back to the mountains of Massachusetts with our Golden doodle Lucy, and our cats, Lilly and Molly...Some of you would call them hills but they're mountains to me!"

I always enjoy introducing a brand new artist.  Jon is a very talented artist.  His artwork shows great promise and his writing skills are amazing.  Clytie introduced Jon to ATC cards recently, and the above piece, entitled Waterfalls, is the result.  He writes, "Sup gentlemen! My name is Jonathan, although people call me Jon. My nickname is Nyuura...I'm 14, and I'm an artist and a writer."

Penny is an amazing artist! The drawing above is only one example of her delicately lovely work in watercolor and acrylic.  She is also a figurative sculpture Artist.  Her magical oak fairies, angels, elves, children, animals are exquisitely detailed--they are so realistic, they almost look as though they might move!

I have had the privilege of meeting Cheryl and Nancy of Cheryl's of Nehalem personally.  What wonderfully talented women they are!  Their costumes are often individually designed, then built from scratch.  Each item is fitted to the wearer.  I have seen examples of the bead work they do and it is amazing.  The costumes they produce are authentic and exquisitely detailed.  The Mrs. Clause costume pictured above actually has inner pockets sewn around the hemline, into which Cheryl puts fine glitter.  As she walks through a room--the children know she's been there by the trail of elf dust she leaves behind.  All the children of Nehalem look forward to her visits at Christmas.

This beautiful Artist Trading Card was created by Jann.  She is a wonderful collage artist, who's ATC cards are much in demand year round.  This mixed media Artist says, "A picture could inspire, in words and thoughts, taking one to a journey of unknown destinations, or it may have a stunning effect, of a kind, that leads to no words! Lover of all things vintage, old things that could tell a story of by gone era's . Especially fond of the years between the 1920's to the 1960's but I appreciate the beauty of almost all ages"

Jeannette is a wonderful artist.  I love her narrations of how her thought processes as these wonderful paintings came into being.  What a lovely, whimsical person she is--deeply sensitive to spiritual things.  Of this picturesque pastel of a tree stump, Jeannette writes, "This weathered and cut off tree trunk has been an image that has been in my mind for a long time.  I got even fonder of this scene as the painting was progressing.  So jazzed that after a few years I reach the finish line of displaying the tree in pastel.  Very much like people.  The longer you know them, the more the imperfections seem to face.  The folds, warts and "cut off" state all all add character!"

Julia Guthrie is a wonderful watercolor artist.  Above is the cover she created for one of her stories.  I find her work, with its amazing detail so inspiring.  She writes, " I  am an Artist, a Wife, & a Mum to my furry kid (a 4 yr old Basset Hound named Nimh) and we live on the Cornish coast (UK). I am inspired by everything around me from the magical landscape & seascapes of South Cornwall, to the local legends of King Arthur, the Mermaid of Zennor & myths galore!"

This exquisite silver leaf necklace is an example of Angela's detailed artistry, which is inspired by the world around her.  This wonderful artist uses her talents to create the most amazing pieces.  She writes, "Nothing evokes a feeling of rejuvenation and inspiration for me like the cool crisp days of autumn. All of nature prepares itself for the coming of winter, and while some have the urge to bundle up and settle in, my instinct is to be out and exploring. I feel my most creative at this time of year. I come alive at the scent of newly fallen leaves, and I can't help but marvel at nature's ever constant changing canvas..."

I believe art is not confined to an ability to draw.  There are a variety of artists in this world -- musicians, clothing designers, gardeners and cooks, to name a few!  I found Coralie Cederna Johnson through Pink Saturday -- what a lovely, generous woman she is!  Then I found her blog with fabulous old recipes from the fifties.  It is plain to see this dear lady is an artist -- Not in the conventional way -- but an artist just the same.  She writes, "As a lover of all things vintage, I write about our cottage home, inspirational decorating, vintage finds, thrifty buys, and old-time recipes. I have many additional interests such as reading, writing, blogging, arts and crafts, and quilting..."

Christina Cairns makes the most beautiful hand-made ornaments I've ever seen.  I happened upon her blog as I was looking for ideas for Christmas gifts.  I was struck by the grace and beauty of her artwork.  Happily, Christina has an Etsy Shop.  You can find that link on her blog.  She writes, "I am an artist, mother, and creator of things. Dreamer of dreams, singer of songs, believer in magic, lover of tall tales and true, and maker of the world's best ever Pan Forte."  She is someone I would love to meet someday!

Here is another artist I ran into through Facebook.  Robin Leath's artwork is stunning.  I was just blown away by her imagination and the beauty of her pieces.  Robin doesn't appear to have an actual blog featuring her work, but she does have an Etsy shop.  She writes, "My paintings are all original and one of a kind. I am a life long artist and for the most part, self taught."

This is one of my favorites--Love of Roses--by my precious sis Deann.  She is one of the best digital artists I've ever seen, not to mention her wonderfully creative pieces created with paint and canvas.  Deann's artwork is imaginative and whimsical with a bit of magic thrown in.  I am honored to call this dear lady my Friend and Sister.

FAT Tuesday - #1

Today is FAT Tuesday!  This is the VERY FIRST Featured Artist Tuesday ever!  I've started this special day to honor all the wonderful artists who have been an inspiration to me.  Each Tuesday I will be featuring five of these delightfully unique individuals.  I am sure you will enjoy their work as much as I do!

I also want to provide a forum for artists to share their work with one another--this includes all types of arts and crafts, including photography.  If you would like to take part in FAT Tuesday, check out the guidelines at the bottom of the page.

My sister Clytie is one of the most creative people I know.  She's never considered herself an artist but I've always known  better.  This is one of her amazing ACEO cards.

The card is made of graffiti peeled from the walls of an abandoned building.  She spray painted a real spiderweb, captured it on the card, then added a spider, cut from more graffiti.  These are one of a kind cards--each is exquisitely made from GENUINE graffiti, trash, recycled wallpaper and found treasures.  To see more of Clytie's altogether cool artwork, visit  Random He'Art'Work.

Deann is a wonderful artist who's work with photoshop baffles my mind.  This is just a sample of her amazing artwork!  Deann is one of my favorite people--her lovely whimsical nature shines through this wonderful piece entitled Dragonfly Dreams.  You can see more of Deann's artist's heart at The Whimsey Asylum.

Megan Coyle's work is fascinating.  To create these incredible works of art, she cuts tiny pieces of color from magazines and newspapers--then puts them together to create wonderful pieces such as the Crane.  This piece is currently hanging in the Goodwin exhibit.  To see more of her unique artwork visit Megan at Megan Coyle - Collage Artist.
