Friends of the Forest -Paint Party Friday

This drawing has the whimsical idea of the woodlands pictured as a person and the wolf as friend and defender of the forest.

I have always loved wolves.  In fact, my senior paper was all about wolves.  Wolves live in family groups called packs. They live in dens, which are small caves or a hole dug in the ground. It shelters a mother and her pups weather and protects the little ones from animals who might want to make a snack of them.

Like human families often do, all wolves in a pack help take care of the younger ones. When the pups are very small, other pack members bring food to the mother so she does not have to leave the den. Wolf pups love to play, stalking and pouncing on each other.  Baby wolves also find toys to play with, such as bones, feathers or the skins of dead animals.

Wolves are amazing animals.  Though they can be solitary and lonely (I often feel like howling myself), I admire their loyalty to family and the friendship they share with one another.

Above you see my lovely model, Miss Melissa.  She is a wonderful inspiration to me.

Happy Paint Party Friday, my precious Friends.  May God bless you with joy and unexpected laughter.  Have a beautiful weekend and thank you for dropping by.  ((hugs))

Another World

Trapped on the grassy world of Stindotu, the brave warrior Noztes and his companion Jor, the golden wolf of Urpac, seek a porthole leading to safety on another world. Their loyalty to one another is tested as they face certain destruction from the evil shadow beings residing in this world.  Death is not far, as these two face the furious bombardment of molten fireballs streaming out of the skies.

Caught in the death-struggle of a dying planet, the two friends face certain annihilation. Will they find a way out? Can impossible odds be beaten?

AND, what about NAOMI?!

Surely theirs, is a story which must be written. (grin)

Snow Eagle - Guest Heart Thursday

I have been painting tee-shirts for the past five days.  It has been about 10 years since I've painted on fabric this way.  The above is my favorite of the six I've painted so far.   The snow flakes were not intended--I squirted white paint onto the head area--and it splattered all over.  That's when I came up with the idea of the Snow Eagle.  Sometimes mistakes make the best pieces of art.  If  you look closely, just under his feathered chin--you can see a tiny splatted heart.

The wolf above gave me all kinds of trouble!  His face was too fat, his ears were too short and his fur was too stripped.  The photo doesn't do justice to the final painting.  I do love his eyes--they follow a person everywhere!

I call this an Etruscan Lion, because he came out so differently than what I'd envisioned when I first started painting him. He looks rather fierce, don't you think?

This fetching fellow turned out a little stout--Sometimes a drawing takes over and does something completely different than what I first had in mind.
Here is another of the eagles I painted.  As you can see this guy has a completely different personality than any of the others.

These tee-shirts were painted for the winners of a drawing we had for our non-profit organization.  I had a LOT of fun painting them!

Bandit the Wolf

Two years ago, when  snow actually fell here, I was delighted to capture some of the wonderful creatures hidden in that white sparkling world--including this wolf peeking from the branches of the fir tree which graces the corner of our front yard.

I dedicated this cloud painting to Bandit. Bandit was a wolf-mix dog, who chose my mother as his very own. But he had to find a new home. I know my darling Mumsie still grieves over not having her friend close by. When they leave our lives, we never forget them.

When Mom saw the wolf cloud painting, she recognized her beloved friend Bandit, looking toward heaven.

Above you see Bandit as I first captured him howling up to the snowclouds.

Old Blue Eyes

I have always loved wolves.  When I was a girl I read Call of the Wild and loved every word.  I wrote my senior paper about the Wolf.  In fact, one can tell the difference between a dog and wolf by their eyes.  There is a little tilt to the eye of a Wolf which gives the animal that keen, intelligent gaze.  They are wild animals and as with all wild animals are not to be trusted.  However, Wolves are loyal to their families and have an amazing social structure within the pack.   I find them to be fascinating.

I have done two different drawings of wolves nearly alike, but opposites.  Old Yellow Eyes and now Old Blue Eyes.  Have you ever looked into the blue eyes of a dog with wolf lineage?  I have...It is an amazing experience.

Old Yellow Eyes

There is something compelling in the gaze of the wolf. There is a shrewd intelligence which captures my imagination. Fiercely loyal to family and friend, the friendship of a wolf--carefully won--is to be respected.
