Hope of Sunrise -Paint Party Thursday

I always try to put in two pieces, one I've finished and another graphite drawing from my sketchbook.  Please take a look at both, as they are quite different.

In my experience some folks don't quite know how to react when the loss of a loved one is brought into the spotlight.  So, I have featured this first painting which has a sad feeling (but with hope!)--and the sketch below, which is a bit more light-hearted and whimsical.  ((hugs))

In explanation, I have been feeling sad the past two days.  I couldn't figure out why, until I realized this is right about the time Dad had the stroke which took him from us a month later.  I will likely grieve his loss in our lives for the rest of mine.  We all will.

This is an acrylic painting I made for my Mom right after Daddy died.  It is really really big--and I had to photograph it.  The photograph doesn't do the original painting justice, as the colors are more neon than the original.  Still--it conveys the weeping heart of the dear Shepherd, Whom Mumsie loves.

I spent hours and hours writing out every Bible verse I could find about hope and comfort onto the canvas.  Even if your beliefs are different than mine--hope is universal.  Blessings and hope to each of you.

And now the more light-hearted, whimsical side, here is another peek into my sketchbook.  Above is a little faery playing a morning melody. She marched out of my pencil yesterday as the workers pounded, thudded, thwacked and sawed a tumult of noise, as they worked on the chimney!

PS  I just found out I've been featured on Paint Party Friday!  What an honor--thank you!

Have a lovely day, sweet Friends!  Happy Paint Party Friday!

What a beautiful tribute to your grief, and your dads memory! Hope is universal and that painting was such a loving act in your own time of grief! You keep his spirit alive when you remember and speak of him! Wonderful artwork! Thanks for sharing this intimate side of yourself! Sorry for your loss...the pain does ease over time I can attest to that!

Congratulations being featured on ppf! Quite fitting this week! Hope it cheered you up somewhat!

Big hugs Giggles

First, congrats on being the featured artist! Your drawing of the fairy is lovely. The painting you gave your mother is touching. I lost my dh of 56 years of marriage almost 1 year ago and the pain at times is very sharp. At other times, the pain is a dull ache. I'm sure in a couple of years, I won't cry so much. I feel for your dear mother and send my best wishes to her for healing and to you also.

I feel so privileged that you've shared this beautiful tribute Beth.
I lost my Dad when he was only 47 years old and my mother had known him since she was 14. I still feel the pain of losing him as I was only 16. It never goes away but we learn to cope with it. Blessing to you and your Mum
On a brighter note...
Congratulations on being the featured artist. I hope knowing we are all here is of some comfort to you.

Beautiful tribute to your Dad. I too, have lost both a father and a husband. The pain never completely goes away, but it does get easier as time goes on. Take care of your self and your Mom.

Congrats on being the featured artist!
Colors are good for us, specially when we grieve...
I agree - hope is universal - too many people don't have anything else...

Your Hope of Sunrise painting is powerful and moving. I often associate your three main colours (royal blue, red and bright yellow) with our Lord.

Your flute playing faerie is stunning in her definition and detail. A truly lovely and skilled drawing.

Thank you for your inspiring comments on my blog. I always appreciate you dropping by.

Blessing hugs,
Teresa

I look back at this post--how poignant to realize that 20 days after I'd written these words, my beloved husband of 31 years would himself fly to heaven. That earlier self is telling me there is hope...And that the Shepherd Who loves Mumsie--He loves me, too.
