Fall Evening -Guest Heart Thursday

This was a Prismacolor drawing I made as a Christmas gift for my lovely niece Georgia.  She is such a dear girl.  The kindness and sweetness of the girl in the drawing are echoes of what I see in Georgia.

Have a lovely day--and Happy New Year!

I'm adding this picture to Guest Heart Thursday--you can see hearts in the leaves.  I still haven't counted how many there are...

Shy Fae -Guest Heart Thursday

This was my Christmas gift to Sissy.  I was thinking about her as I drew this cutie.  I remember Clytie when she was a child.  She was a wonderful sister (still is).  She has always had the gift of making people laugh.  In some ways, I am just a pale copy of her vibrant personality.  I have always admired her, and am endlessly inspired by her love, kindness and creativity.

This year for Christmas, I did something I rarely do--I gave my family the originals of the drawings.  Normally I make numbered prints from the originals.  But this Christmas was special.  Hope your Christmas was filled with happiness and laughter.

Happy Guest Heart Thursday dear Friends.

Joyful Tears -Guest Heart Thursday

I was doodling in my sketchbook and who should pop from my pencil, but my youngest sister.  She is a beautiful young woman...of course I've hidden hearts in this drawing.

Sky Ship

I have posted this piece before, but this morning something about this magical vessel caught my eye.  I remembered the moment I saw the original cloud.  My darling husband and I were off to get some groceries.  I hopped out of the van to find my husband rounding the end of the vehicle.

"Look!" he cried, pointing toward the Western sky.  "It's a ship!"

I gasped.  Indeed--it was a ship.

Above you see the cloud as we first saw it.  As you can see--it really was a ship--and I was inspired.

Have a lovely day!

Captain's Dreams

Here is a colored pencil drawing I drew for a sea captain I know.  I did a graphite version nearly two years ago.  The Captain and his crew fish for crab off the Oregon Coast.  He and his dear lady are very precious to our hearts.  They are getting this piece for Christmas!  Shipping it off today.

Have a lovely week!

Snowy Day

'Tis the hope it will snow next week.  It can snow here in the Willamette Valley, but over the years I've decided we live in a vortex where it snows everywhere else but here.  I keep hoping and praying for snow--perhaps I will get my wish this time?  Just enough for a snow man.

The above painting is only 3.5x2.5 inches--the size of a baseball card.  I just love painting these tiny pictures.

Happy Thanksgiving, Merry Christmas and have a lovely day!

Heart Walk -Guest Heart Thursday

Another of my little doodles--but this one I drew especially for today's Guest Heart Thursday.  A year ago, just a few weeks earlier, Daddy had flown away to heaven.  On top of that, my beloved husband was heading to the hospital for major cancer surgery and life seemed so difficult.

This year has been full of firsts--a heart walk through difficult days.  Yet along this walk of broken hearts--family,  friends and a God who loved us throughout, made all the difference in the world.

A blessed Thanksgiving to everyone today.

Sunny Sleeper -Guest Heart Thursday

Here's another of my doodles.  I finished it two nights ago.  She could be Sleeping Beauty, or a fairy taking a soft nap upon a sunflower.  And, of course, there are hearts to be found in this graphite sketch.

Moon in Hiding -Guest Heart Thursday

Here is a tiny painting, the size of a baseball card, which I painted a few days ago.  Of course, I have hidden a heart therein.

Have a lovely weekend!

Forest Charmer -Guest Heart Thursday

Here is another of my graphite doodles.  I was gone for five days--visiting family.  I imagined what my darling niece would look like when she grew up--and here she is.  Her favorite flowers gather around her feet as she tends the birds of the forest beneath the great maple trees.

Have a lovely day!

Magic, the Horse -Guest Heart Thursday

Magic the Horse rode away to heaven last Spring.  I met him years ago--he was beloved best friend of my "adopted" daughter.  What a wonderful friend he was to her.  I had been working on the painting off and on since April. I finally finished this portrait of Magic today.  It is quite large, 22x28 inches!  I'm happy to say, my daughter loved the painting and he's on his way home with my girl.

Of course, there is a heart to be found.  In the original picture, I discovered a heart freckle near his nose--so in this painting, he sports the same heart-shaped spot.

Have a lovely rest of the week!

Autumn Surprise

I remember the day she was born, the first beautiful leaf on our tree of life.  She was everything we'd dreamed about and more.

She is beloved.

As you can see, these two are GREAT friends.  That kitten loves to pounce on her mistress--no afternoon naps for this young lady!

Have a GREAT week everyone!

Love Calls -Guest Heart Thursday

Here is another doodle from my sketchbook.  I haven't had much time to do color or lineart on these--so what you see, is what you get!  I love drawing angels--but especially I like to make borders.  They're like the icing on the cake for me as an artist.

Have a lovely rest of the week!

Vermillion Skies

This is another of my tiny paintings, only the size of a baseball card.  I was inspired by pictures I have taken of the sun setting over the Pacific Ocean.  Pictures and paintings don't do justice to the breathtaking sunsets one can see here.

Here you see whales cavorting in the night sea.  This actually started out as something else--and those whales are remedying a mistake!  Sometimes mistakes turn out pretty good!

Have a lovely rest of the week.

Maiden Walking -Guest Heart Thursday

This is my niece's favorite doodle in my new sketchbook.  I'm so honored.  She is an amazing artist herself--and she doesn't know it.  Psst psst--don't tell anyone....she's getting a finished copy for Christmas!  (grin)

Yes, of course, I've hidden lots of hearts in this little doodle o' mine!  Have a great day!

Brave Rescuer -Guest Heart Thursday

I had so much fun with this doodle.  As you can see, this handsome swordsman is rescuing the beautiful princess from the clutches of a VERY upset dragon.  As I don't like sad endings, I am of a mind the dragon gets stuck in the trees and the two escape unscathed!

Of course, I have hidden hearts throughout the drawing--how many can you find?  Have a great day and Happy Guest Heart Thursday!

Porthole

This is a commissioned piece I am sending off to Texas today.  The original idea came from a graphite drawing I did when I was only 17 years old.

As you can see, I've improved over the years--yet there is a magic in this original drawing I find hard to resist.

Ah, youth!  That young girl, so many years ago, would never have dreamed I would be posting her artwork on something like a blog!

Here's to the past and the future!

Have a wonderful weekend.

Love at First Sight -Guest Heart Thursday

This saucy unicorn started life on the counter--I saw him in the wood grain, grabbed a pencil and walah!

A moment later I noticed my sketchbook was open and that unicorn was OBVIOUSLY making eyes at this lovely maiden--hence, he joined her on the page...I know,  I know, I have a GREAT imagination!

And of course, there are hearts hidden throughout. Have a lovely day!

She Wears a Heart -Guest Heart Thursday

This is a page from my sketchbook.  The scanner doesn't do it justice.  Nevertheless--there's a heart to be found.  Not just one obvious one, but another hidden.

Have a great weekend!

Girl of the Waterfall -Guest Heart Thursday

Here is another doodle from a few nights ago.  I couldn't sleep, so found myself sketching--not quite knowing what would show up on the page.  This lovely young woman looks a lot like our darling Mumsie when she was young.  Mom still retains that whimsical personality.  Sometimes it is like we are sisters instead of Mom and daughter.  I enjoy being with her so much.

Of course, there are hearts hidden through this drawing.  Have a lovely day everyone!

Early Morning Springtime -Guest Heart Thursday

This is another tiny painting--only the size of a baseball card.  I love doing these.  This ACEO is one of my favorites.  It seems to me, that tree is dancing in the early morning light.  And, of course, I have hidden a few hearts throughout.

Saw the Mountains

This is a photo of a saw I painted over ten years ago.  It was done in acrylic and I'd forgotten about it until just recently.  It hangs in my Papa and Daka's home.

You can see profiles of faces in the clouds...

...and in the mountains.

These fir trees turned out so pretty.  I love the color of the blue.

More cloud faces and then my signature.  I remember I had so much fun painting this.  In cleaning out my shed recently, I discovered a bunch of old saws.  I'll be painting them soon.

Have a lovely day!
