Woman in Bark

This is a whimsical nude I found in some silvery driftwood on a beach near Lincoln City.  At first I felt a little shy to upload this organic painting--but Woman in Bark is such a phenomenal naturally beautiful piece I wanted to share her with you. I was astonished at the detail--you can see I did not have to enhance much.

The lady seems to be painted by one of the masters of old--washed ashore in a froth of bubbles.  Perhaps she is indeed a portrait of Venus who, according to ancient myths, was born from the foam of the waves.

Above you see her as I first saw her, the Woman in Bark.

Howard Davies who lived on Victoria Island in BC, used to walk the beach there and the ocean current hit the western side of the island. He said it piled up all sorts of wood from everywhere. And he used some of the knots and odd pieces to carve some beautiful pieces. I have a photo of one piece I really liked. I will have to post it.

I would love to see that photo, Abe. I'll look forward to it! I have always loved wood and driftwood. I can't explain why--it is just a feeling I have for the grain and beauty I see in it.

She's fabulous! WT is always bringing up driftwood from the Scioto River. I need to start looking for some natural images.
